Happy 100th B'day to Four New York Landmarks!

No wisecracks about my age, now . . . I was reading a chronology of Manhattan and found out that four of the loveliest and most important buildings here are turning 100 in 2002:

• The Fuller Bldg., better known as the Flatiron (I know this is a favorite of many Dopers, from that architecture thread).

• The Algonquin (my personal favorite hangout).

• Macy’s in Herald Square (they’d been on 14th Street till moving uptown in 1902).

• The Metropolitan Museum of Art (the Fifth Avenue facade was completed in 1902).

Happy birthday—gosh, architecture was a fine art back then!

Eve, you will no doubt love to know that from the men’s bathroom in our offices* we have a great view of the Flatiron’s backside. Rather like certain people I know, it’s almost as lovely as the front.

*The women’s bathroom is slightly larger than the men’s, but windowless.

. . . And from the Flatiron, they have a great view of your backside!

ah, darling, and here we thought you were talking about Kitty Carlisle…

(she has to be close, to tell the truth…):stuck_out_tongue:

The Flatiron Building is one of my favorite NYC landmarks. That and the Brooklyn Bridge.

23 Skidoo!

According to the IMDb, she was 92 on Sept. 3rd.

Glad to read she’s still kicking around. I remember her from “To Tell the Truth” (or was it “What’s My Line?”)

I love the architecture from that time. One of my favorite books is Jack Finney’s “Time and Again,” and one of its covers features the Flatiron. Beautiful design.

::strides off, whistling ‘New York, New York’::

And also, a big happy birthday to the World Trade C… oops …
