Yes, Toronto, the city that everyone loves to hate, the Centre of the Universe, Hogtown, the Big Smoke, the Megacity, home of Noooobody! and Honest Ed’s and streetcars and Maple Leaf Gardens and the CN Tower and the Tabletop and the Lee-Chin Crystal, and a fine crew of Dopers…
…is celebrating its 175th anniversary! Happy birthday!
Happy anniversary, Toronto! Although to be precise, today is the 175th anniversary of Toronto’s incorporation as a city; the settlement itself is older: according to Wikipedia, it was “established” in 1793, making it more than 200 years old!
Similarly, although we celebrated Quebec City’s 400th anniversary last year, it appears that it was only constituted as a city in 1833 (Wikipedia).
Are they going to create another mascot? Remember Seskwee Squirrel for the 150th? What could they do for the 175th? (What is the 175th even called, if anything?)
