Happy Beltane to the Wiccan Dopers!

I hope you all get many blessings from the Lord and Lady and that you have a happy holiday.

I am such a slacker. I didn’t even realize it was Beltane until halfway through the day. Honestly.

So this morning, as Mr Wolf is going out the door, I asked him if he knew what today was. He gave me a strange look, so I told him it was Mayday.

“I know that.”

“It’s also Beltane today.”

“Oh. Well, Happy Beltane,” he says, and is out the door. Without a kiss for me.

I think tonight, I’m going to watch a bit of Harry Potter, watch the Smallville I didn’t see on Tuesday, light some incense, and wait for the coven ritual on Saturday.

Many Beltane Blessings to you all.

In view of the Happy Easter wishes I got from Pagans, I can hardly fail to respond with best wishes for Beltane to all of you!

You just wanted him to think it was your anniversary.

My beloved pooch, Bela, was named in honor Beltane. It seemed like a nice way to celebrate her “birth”, as she was a pound puppy, and it was just as probable as her true birthdate than any other in the neighborhood.

Beltane Blessings, everyone!

On a similar note; please send happy thoughts to my mom; she’s trying to get her delphinium seeds to germinate (not an easy task). I am so glad it’s spring here, there are a million goldfinches in the tree out back and a mommy and daddy duck paddling around the pond by my road. Not to mention the chorus of spring peepers that arises at twilight. What a beautiful day.

Blessings to you, too!

JustPlainBryan and I are getting hitched on Saturday, so we think this an excellent way to celebrate Beltane.

I’ll prolly get flamed for this, but WTF is Beltane?

I’m not sure what Beltane is either (some sort of celebration of new life and the coming of spring, I reckon), but it seemed only fair to me that if the Christians and the Jews get greetings on their special days, then the Wiccans should, too, especially since there seem to be a lot of them.

Beltane is a cross-quarter day (solar holiday between an equinox and a solstice). In modern Pagan tradition it celebrates fire, spring, the Sun, sexuality, and the holy marriage of the Goddess and God. It’s celebrated with such rites as the winding of a maypole and leaping bale-fires, not to mention sex. And marriage (congratulations to Java and Bryan! w00t!)

Well, I extended Beltane wishes by telephone to a couple of good friends yesterday, wishing it could be in person. Still, I’ll quit slacking and extend them to the rest of you today. I’m rather amused that I was indeed celebrating new life, albeit in a somewhat trivial fashion – my basil and chives sprouted yesterday! Just don’t ask about the fate of the sacrificial hyacinth!

The only thing I “know” about Beltane is the cool Beltane Fire Dance…but best wishes all around!

beagle That is one of my all-time favorite songs! It has a very interesting story too. Loreena McKinnet was interested in exploring the idea (at least musically) that far-flung Celtic sailors may have contacted and influenced/been influenced by Native American peoples from the Northeastern shores of North America. The song begins with a slow and steady Huron chant and drums. Then just as “this sounds so good” goosebumps start to pop up everywhere, she slips right into a Celtic style of music. There are just enough similarities between the two, that she seems to effortlessly be able to morph from one to the other. Now I’m going to have to go find and read that CD jacket, because I know this is a terrible re-hash of her intent with this song…

Thanks Gobear. I went out with the faeries and wrapped a maypole. Fun Fun Fun.

Wow, gobear, this thread has put such a smile on my face. Mucho thanks to you.

You’re not alone, phouka. I didn’t realize it was Beltane yesterday until fairly late in the day :smack: Meh… my memory is so bad. I should put all the pagan holidays into my PDA, and tell it to remind me a week ahead of time.

Oh well, I’m sure the Lord and Lady understand. Maybe I can start the strawberry-pot herb garden I’ve been planning this weekend!

Thank you! I celebrated by working in my garden and having a simple happy ritual in my small outdoor circle…this is my favorite holiday

Bright Blessings to all!

Blessed be, everyone. Hope the season brings new fire to your soul the way it brings new fire to your hearth.

Bright Blessings all!
