Happy birthday USA.
Happy birthday, you crazy people down there. sends smooches to you all
One of my all time favorite fourth of July moments contains that phrase…
On the National Mall, July Fourth 1985. Nine MILLION degrees and listening to the bands near the Washington Monument. I’d ditched my family (I was 18) and managed to get up past the soundboard.
A band took the stage and played their first song but the singers mic wasn’t live so all we got was the music and the backing vocals.
Then the mic went live after the song and I heard a throaty raspy voice…
and they kicked into ‘I Love Rock and Roll’.
Also, I had my first beer that day. A guy took pity on me and gave me a Heineken. It tasted astonishingly good because of the heat.
And it took me more than 8 hours to get home that night via Metro and foot. It was dawn and past before I fell into bed.
Dang, we’re 230 already? Might be time we start considering a life insurance policy.
Coincidentally, it is two years ago to the day that I started a thread that was titled Happy Birthday America!
230, wow. Don’t look a day older than 175!
Aww, you’re so sweet.
Happy Birthday, USA!
You still get my vote for “Superpower I would most prefer to be living next to.”
