Happy birthday America!

Go celebrate!

I plan on it. Today I am not doing a damn thing and I like it that way. Tomorrow I plan on drinking and eating several different types of animals with some potato salad throw in. Sunday I plan on not doing a damn thing. Monday I took off to recover from celebrating.

WOOT WOOT!

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!!!

We’re goin’ to some friend’s home for a day of rib eatin’, beer drinkin’, fireworks and general Fourth mayhem. Have fun everybody!

Lessee…last year involved running from the police and hiding in a friend’s basement because he was shooting fireworks in the city limits (I wasn’t guilty of anything but standing there watching; I just didn’t want to be left holding the bag, so to speak). My kids thought I was going to jail…good times!

This year, I went to iTunes to download the X song 4th of July and discovered that all.my.songs.are.gone. Bastards! (I found the files on my computer, but still…)

This year will involve mowing my lawn, grillin’ and chillin’, then if the weather cooperates, going to the fireworks show in Falls Church…it’s a good one, and none of the gigantic hordes and ensuing traffic that clog the DC show.

I’m mostly using the weekend for carpet removal and floor refinishing, but did take a break last night to walk a few blocks to watch the downtown fireworks. They moved them this year, so our viewing spot moved to and…is much better. Woot!!!

I love living close enough to downtown that I can see the fireworks, but don’t have to deal with the crowds.

Tonight - if the weather cooperates - I’ll probably get together with friends and watch one of the suburban fireworks displays.

Happy 4th!!!

To steal and adapt a joke from Lynne Truss:

Mother England has a family. Canada is the quiet child practising the piano upstairs. Australia and New Zealand have moved out of home but still send postcards from the other side of the world. The United States is the big, attention-deficit brother who laughs too loudly and tends to break things.

But we still love him. We’ll give him no end of shit, but that’s because we’re family. If others do it to him, we stand up for him.

Happy birthday, America.

Happy Birthday to you folk south of the border!

Saturday night at Greenfield Village with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra & fireworks!

Good joke, TheLoadedDog. I’ve never heard that before.

Have fun at your cook-outs and fireworks, everyone. Some of us have to work…

That’s what you think. It’s a recording. I won’t tell you what we’re really doing.

Happy 4th of July neighbours. Can I borrow your lawn mower?

Yup, TheLoadedDog, that’s about right! But don’t forget South Africa, the wayward daughter who got knocked up by some Dutch guy! (or was it the Dutch daughter who got knocked up by the English guy?)

I’m pretty much equidistant between Falls Church and Fairfax. The paper today says that Fairfax uses larger shells and has a Jimmy Buffet cover band, while Falls Church fires off more ordnance. Which one to go to? (And if Falls Church wins, do you wan tto try and meet up?)

Also, the paper says that the Alexandria show is on July 12. Woo hoo, more fireworks next week!

When I left work yesterday, I said, “Enjoy the birthday party tomorrow!” A couple of people said, “Who’s birthday is it?”

I just finished hanging my 3’ x 5’ flag outside my apartment. A bunch of my neighbors have theirs out, too. The community BBQ is ready to go, the pool is sparkling, there’s a six pack of (imported?) beer in the fridge…what more can one ask?

Hey, Scuba_Ben! It really depends on the weather, which at this point is pretty spotty…I’m in Arlington, about a mile in from East Falls Church, so the Falls Church one is definitely the one for me and the family. I’d be happy to hook up, but my plans are iffy. (BTW, I think I met you at a Gettysdope 2 or 3 years ago…I’m the guy who brought a flat of black raspberries).

That had to have been '05, as I’m sure in '06 I would’ve noted anybody (else) coming from NoVA.

Weather.com is calling for storms all day today. looks outside No storms yet, though.

I’m PM’ing you my cell phone #. If the weather holds, feel free to call me this afternoon.

Happy 4th of July all you 'Merikans! It’s a slice living next to you!

Let’s just say that we’re suckers for a French accent.

Yeah, it’s those nice, quiet ones you have to watch!

SWMBO and I are taking it easy today. We’re going out to Katy Mills Mall later to eat dinner, watch the fireworks and generally enjoy living in the greatest country in the world.

For a 232 year old broad, Lady Liberty is still looking pretty damn good!

Happy Birthday America!

Lang may yer lum reek!
