Whatcha doing for the Fourth?

Since it falls midweek, it doesn’t lend itself to a long weekend (I love doing a four-day mini-vacation, but five days doesn’t work for me this year), so it’s just a random Wednesday off for me. During the afternoon I’m going to go help a friend of mine rearrange furniture (I provide the artistic eye, he provides the strong back), then I’m going over to my sister’s for dinner – just a normal dinner, no BBQ or anything.

You?

Sleeping late, basking in the sun for an hour or so, taking a midafternoon nap, then meeting friends at St. Pete Beach to watch fireworks…and set some of our own off.
Can’t wait!

We’re hoping to get the rest of our new doors installed - 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, 1 linen closet. Gotta get it done because our kid and her fiance are arriving on the 11th and we figure guest rooms without doors aren’t too hospitable. We’ll probably do some cleaning, too.

Oh yeah, we know how to whoop it up on a day off.

Painting then preping some concrete for a concrete stain.

Depending on the weather, Wife is still trying to talk me into heading downtown early to catch the opening hours of the Taste at 11, then be headed home before it gets crazy.

After that, most likely sitting home until about 8 when we walk over to the field where the local fireworks get shot off.

twicks , I was in your town in 1976 for the Bicentennial - still the coolest 4th I ever saw. Saw the Prez the day before at Valley Forge, then sat and watched about a 4 hour long parade, followed by fireworks late at night.

I have no plans. I will probably tinker on some projects that I’m working on at home. I may sleep as late as 6:00 which is rather late for me, but other than that, no plans.

Our condo complex is having a pool party.

My husband will be home in awhile, as he’s starting his vacation today. I’ve already got a pot of beans on for tomorrow, so we can have some semblance of the ‘All-American’ 4th of July… and tomorrow morning, I’ll be making a hot, fresh batch of tasty cornbread to go with it. He will be cooking steaks on the grill, and we’ll have assorted sides to go with it.
Some fireworks will be on the agenda, and we’ll be going today to grab up some of those.
That about covers it!

Heh. I was in Santa Barbara then, had just graduated from college – I took a couple of hits of acid and cleaned the shower. Ah, youth.

These days: I live fairly close to (a few miles from) the Art Museum – I can see the fireworks there over the trees from my bedroom window.

I’ll be working, and hoping for a slow day.
If it’s really slow, I’ll get to go home early. In that case I’ll work on packing the rest of my wordly possessions, because I have no life.

I was 16. My dad’s friend - who was an UD cop - his son and I kept sneaking off and doing one-hitters the whole week.

Damn, you’re old.

What am I doing for the Fourth? Recovering from the First!

Happy Independence Day to all our US Dopers!

You’re both old.
July 4, 1976? I was 11.
I don’t remember what I did - I’m guessing parade, hung out at the pool, and then fireworks. With my family.

Razorette and I are driving down to Dallas to see some friends. Leaving the northeast corner of Colorado about four Tuesday afternoon, overnight in Guymon or OKC (depending on which direction we decide to take) then into Dallas in time for the first of three Texas barbecues between now and Sunday. Hey, y’all!

I spent the 4th of the Bicentennial in Newport, RI - I was going thru some Navy training that summer. I was 22, single, not at all in debt, and I had money in the bank.

How things have changed…

July 4th the bicentennial I, too, had just graduated from college. As to what I actually did on the Fourth, who knows but you can bet whatever it was I was some combo of drunk/stoned whilst doin’ it. Actually I was probably out at the lake cause that’s where most of the drunk/stoned carousin’ took place at the time. Ah youth!

MBG and BibKitty, git off’n muh lawn ya whippersnappers!

This year we are celebratin’ with friends just like we’ve done the past three years. Ribs, baked beans, coleslaw, tater salad, water melon, beerverages, the works. Maybe later we’ll watch the local fireworks or not. There’s also a good chance of t’storms here tomorrow. If it doesn’t rain, there’s also every possibility of an impromptu pool party late afternoon/early evening at da swampcave.

I’m celebrating the 4th on the 3rd with a 5th! :stuck_out_tongue:

We’re going to see Cyndi Lauper at a free concert under The Arch, followed by amazing fireworks.

It’s flooding in Calcutta…so sitting in my guest house. :frowning:

Damn, that should be good. I’ve got her album of standards from a few years ago – she’s got a great voice.

The big free concert in Philly this year is Hall and Oates. There’s no way I’m gonna subject myself to that crowd, but I may turn on the TV for it …
