At the moment, I’ll be spending the morning marching in the city parade with my school band. The rest of the day will be spent at home, probably whining about how evil parades are. There might be some watermelon eaten in there somewhere. I haven’t gone to watch the fireworks in a few years, but if my family goes this year, I might too.
But I will gladly come eat with you, gobear. That sounds yummy.
No plans at all. My family’s not here. I’m not a big fan of fireworks, and I know the firecrackers in the neighborhood will make my doggies crazy, so I’ll probably just stay home and surf or watch TV or veg. And I’ll be going into work on the 5th, so it’ll just be a day off for me.
Working retail from 9-4. Making the best baked beans in the world for work group and later family group. Watching fireworks downtown Akron from our neightborhood 1/2 mile away.
But, of course, the highlight will be, …ta da! Reading the SDMB.
I’ll be going to my sister’s house to join her and her husband to watch their fireworks show. I will also contribute some of my own fireworks to the show.
Also working retail, 9-6:30 by myself. Why don’t you have plans to come out shopping? The malls of America are counting on you. Retail workers across the land are going to be waiting, expectantly, for you to arrive, loaded down with cash. Our managers and planners have told us that you will be out shopping today. They expect it. They expect us to make our goals. They do not want you at home, grilling salmon and hotdogs and slicing cucumbers. Go shopping, for gosh sake.
Corporate America is counting on you. Fie on family get-togethers! Shop together! Spend together!
I asked for the day off. I got the day off. Then my manager’s sister decided to come up from Fla. to visit, and being an overly nice person with no life and no specific plans, I told her I’d work the Fourth. Again. The fourth time in five years. I’ll be too tired to walk down to the park for the fireworks, so I’ll walk to the next corner and peer thru the trees and see the ones that go up high…
We’ll go to the parade in the morning, with the kids, and then we’re having a cookout in the afternoon.
We have one every year, and invite about 8 other couples, and their kids.
We’re having crabs. I think we’ll need two bushels.
I need to buy hamburgers and hotdogs. And the accessories for them. And some chicken to grill.
And corn on the cob, preferably Maryland’s famed Silver Queen corn from a farm truck on the side of the road.
Guests are bringing soda and beer, pasta salad, fruit salad and desserts.
I’ll make Watermelon Shooters, too. For the grown-ups, only, of course.
Then we’ll all head off to fireworks in the evening.

Well, I have a bout of depression scheduled for 9:00 AM sharp, followed by intense feelings of homesickness.
At approximately 10:00, I will stuff my face with donuts, and then turn on the TV. If I can’t find a Twilight Zone marathon running, I will watch the History Channel.
At approximately 6:00, I will find something to make for dinner. Maybe a steak? Who knows.
At 8:00, I plan on having another bout of depression because I missed the parade and I don’t know where the fireworks are. Well, even if I did, I wouldn’t be driving there to see them–too much traffic.
I will probably jump online around 9:00
Go to bed at 10:00. And then usher out the 4th of July with a Bang!
I’ve been invited to the current bf’s (guess that’s what he is now) folks with him. They invited me, even. Ok, I already know them because I had been to their home several times with him before we became an “item”. (I got told over the weekend by friends that he and I are now an “item”. I asked if that meant we got presents, but no such luck.) I had helped him take some stuff up to his folks house when we were just friends. Out of everybody I know, I am the only one who owns a pickup truck. But I digress…
I am going with bf to his folks for a cookout. His brother and sister will also be there. I know and like all these people so it should be good. I’m even taking food. I’m making baked beans, potato salad, my world renown cookie pie and bringing the stuff to make homemade ice cream as well as the ice cream freezer. Bf is in charge of the grill and is bringing the burgers and dogs to cook. Bf’s brother is in charge of the fixins’ for burgers and dogs. Sis will probably bring those god awful fruit and pasta salads that no one ever eats but she brings anyway. (She brought em to a potluck dinner at bf’s house. I was brave and sampled em. To my credit, I did not gag :D) His folks are supplying the drinks. (Sidenote, bf’s father asked him what kind of beer I like so he’d make sure and have some…awwww…). They live in a small town that is having some kind of doins that night that includes both a band concert and fireworks. Bf’s folks live one block off the Main Street so we can walk down and join in the fun or sit in their front yard and watch the fireworks. All in all, sounds to me like it will be a fun day.
