I know we’re not all Americans here . . . But what do you have planned for the weekend?
My cheap-ass company is NOT giving us Monday the 3rd off, so I am using one of my TWO personal days to get a four-day weekend. I’m going to paint my apartment—already bought the paint and all the equipment. Ukulele Ike thinks this is hilarious and has all these Lucy Ricardo images of me in his head, falling head-first into paint cans and papering over myself. Not too far off-base, probably . . .
I’m having a Martha Stewart attack and am actually looking forward to this (we’ll see how long THAT attitude lasts!).
We are going to be camping all next week, woo hoo! Beer, campfires, beer, canoeing, beer, relaxing, beer, reading, beer, fireworks, beer, swimming, beer, ummm, did I mention beer?
Forget the beer, Democritus, I’m taking 2 gallons of my homemade mead on my camping trip. I’m leaving tomorrow to spend 5 whole days camping with my family.
If any of you vets care about the plans of a newbie like me: Giving notice on my apartment, inventorying what I should keep, sell, and put in storage. Thinking of where I should go, what I should do next.
I just quit my job, so it will truly be a day of independence - the good kind and the scary kind. Will probably go down to the Mall and watch the fireworks go off behind our national phallic symbol, could be the last time I get to do that in person instead of watching on T.V. And by god, there will be BEER!
We’re tearing down wallpaper and fixing the walls (the previous house owners evidently saw wallpaper as a cheap way to cover up mistakes).
A big event that was supposed to take place this weekend got cancelled, so my wife plans to use the long weekend to toilet-train our almost-three year old daughter. This gives a whole new meaning to “fireworks”.
I’m going to be on the PC for most of the weekend talking to a friend some of you know. Most of you, in fact, know her.
I hate big special events. So many people and loud noises and all that. So I try not to go any more than I can.
Birthdays I hate especially. This is a large hint for October.
Getting back to the point of the OP, though, I don’t plan on doing much, if anything, to celebrate what most Americans think is the birth of this country.
magdalene, good to see another Nation’s Capital Doper in the mix. Hail and well met.
Mrs. O has the 3d off, and I don’t. She’ll probably goof around somewhere and get some errands done, then that night we’re going out with a nice couple we recently met and love to hang out with. As for the 4th - probably stick around the house, maybe see if we can get a vantage point from which to view the 'works on the Mall without actually going there. We’ll be Tzeroling-free from the 2nd onward so serious misbehavior is in the works, no matter what.
I will be spending Sunday and Monday at Summerfest in Milwaukee. Sun, the Lake, pretty girls in summer attire, Beer, Music, Beer, etc. What a way to spend the days!! (anybody care to join me? Lets go Play!)
On the 4th, a buddy is having a HUGE party. (Pretty much the same as Summerfest but no lake and more party favors)
I made the executive decision today to close the office on the 3rd, so . . .
Three day golf tournament at Innisbrook Resort in Clearwater (to watch Mr. Golf play), which means our annual Sat. night trek to the Tarpon Springs sponge docks and to a local bar for all you can eat peel n’ eat shrimp (with BEER); home Monday afternoon, barbecue with friends (yes, there will be BEER drinking) on Tuesday and watch fireworks over the lake.
I’m driving to Wisconsin on Saturday (family lake cottage), but returning on Sunday. Monday and Tuesday I’ll be rebuilding windows in my house. (Stripping 85 years worth of paint, removing old putty, replacing cracked window panes, re-puttying, rebuilding deteriorated wood, and repainting.) Heat gun in 90 degree weather. Oh, joy! (Actually, it’s kind of satisfying to see the result.)
I have 2 friends from Boston coming to visit Saturday evening. They staying until tuesday afternoon, but our fireworks show is on the 2nd, I think. Probably just hang out and relax…I have Mon. and Tue. off, so that should be pretty cool.
I have absolutely no clue what I’m doing over the 4th. Maybe I’ll catch a movie and crash a party or two. I kind of forgot that the 4th was coming up this soon.
Probably We’ll have a good old fashioned picnic, with fried chicken, corn an the cob and potato salad, with watermelon for dessert.
we’ll let the kids run around with the sparklers, and watch our little town put on the fireworks display. We’ll place side bets to see how many ground bursts they have, and how many fires they start.
I am still trying to get Monday (which is the Canadian holiday) off. I have tomorrow off, and I could really use a 5 day weekend… Today is our wedding anniversary, so we are going away for the weekend to Stratford.
