Happy Birthday Buddy

Today (7th. September) being Buddy’s birthday I should like to ask what are people’s favourite tracks of either Buddy on his own or with the Crickets. My favourites are “listen to Me” “Its so Easy” and “Well all Right”. These little gems (most lasting only a couple of minutes) show more inventivness and imagination than most other pop/rock tracks either then or now.Considering the very basic resources and equipment available to them they produced some fantastic work.

Thanks for the B’day heads up!

  1. Not Fade Away
  2. Rave On
  3. Well All Right
  4. Every one of the rest!

Hey David:
Are you and I the only two dopers that are Buddy Holly fans? That seems impossible! Anyway, maybe you can help me with something: For several years I’ve been trying to find a copy of “Ting A Ling”. The only source I found for it is in a very large box set. Since I already have most of Buddy’s music on stuff ranging from 45’s through CD’s, I don’t want to spend three figures money for a box set containing music I already have, in order to acquire one song. Have you seen “Ting A Ling” offered anywhere other than as part of a huge box set? Thanks

I like Rave On

I always thought “Peggy Sue” was a nice song. But I must say that “Rave On” was splendid. Both are easy to sing background to (I was a chorus singer for “The Buddy Holly Story”, a musical play about his life… everyone should see it).

I like that track as well. That raw, earthy sound with more than a hint of early Elvis is realy good. I bought my copy here in the UK but quite a few years ago. It is on a cassette called “Rock On With” Buddy ,on the low-price Music for Pleasure label. The compilation also contains other rare tracks such as “Blue Days , Black Nights” ,“Rock Around with Ollie Vee” and “Rock Me My Baby”. This compilation is probably not available now. Your only hope is to do a search on somewhere like “Google” or try and get in touch with a Buddy Holly fan group . They might be able to point you in the right direction. Anybody else out there with ideas?
