A long, long time ago we had a thread about obscure Presidents. Martin Van Buren got a bit of play. Well, today is his birthday and I’d like to wish him a happy one.
Here’s to you, Fox of Kinderhook, the Little Magician, and Matty Van.
Anyone that has a Wedgewood chamberpot is OK in my book.
Martin Van Buren is my alias i used when i sign up for stuff on the web! of course, i know him as Martin Van Ruin, and the Panic of 1837. (sounds like a children’s book title)
It’s funny, but in grade school they never taught us anything that happened during MVB’s presidency. He was just this wonderful red-headed lawyer guy from our hometown who got to be the President, yippee for him.
I guess when he’s the only reason your town is on the map of the state at all, you’ll look at his history through rose-colored glasses.
A little known fact is that MVB was a Unitarian (or a Universalist; I can’t remember). He is not one of the historical figures that we are usually proud to claim as our own.
