Happy birthday to me! Frozen peas as far as the eye can see!

Well, the bad part is that I’m 29, the good part is that I got a freezer for my birthday and it got delivered today! Happy, happy day!

I have a nice bottom-freezer fridge, but I NEVER have enough room in the freezer. I have to pass up a lot of deals because I just don’t have the space - you throw a thing of wheat flour in there, a bottle of limoncello, and a couple pie crusts, and bam, that’s it, you’re out of room! And Himself is always all, “There’s nothing in this house for dinner!”, whereas if I had more freezer room I could keep more basic frozen building blocks (I hate freezer dinners and such, but a few frozen pizzas, some pierogies, some meatballs, and a lot of veggies would really come in handy.)
It’s beautiful. It’s upright (I wanted chest at first but I realized I’d never take anything out of there if I had to go shuffling through it with cold hands) and 13.7 cubic feet and it has a little alarm if it gets too warm or the door is open too long. It makes more noise than I expected, but it’s in the back room so that’s okay. And I might be able to put a little TV on top of it and watch it while I do my elliptical, if it’s tall enough! (Haven’t tried.)

I am going to go today and buy a crapton of ice cream and frozen meatballs and pierogies and vegetables! I am so happy! (Except I have to work on my birthday and we have 38 people waiting for a computer, which blows.)

A freezer is a strange thing to be excited about, especially for someone who is only 29. Still

is in order.

Did anyone else try to fit “Frozen peas as far as the eye can see!” into the second line of Happy Birthday?

Oh, and happy freezer day!

Happy birthday, young whippersnapper! Congrats on the freezer. They’re pretty cool. Does it have a light? Ours doesn’t. I don’t know if any of them do, but sometimes I wish ours had a light.

We use ours mostly for convenience food and veggies, stuff from the garden. It doesn’t work for meat because I never think to take meat out so it’ll thaw in time for dinner.

Yes, yes I did.

anyway, Happy Birthday! May you and your freezer have a long happy life together.

A freezer! Now, that’s a totally cool birthday present.

If it works right, that is.

Happy birthday! Go get a frozen ice cream cake to celebrate.

Anyone else scroll past this without reading it, thinking “damn ads…”?

Happy Birthday! Also, congrats on the freezer. We are still using the ancient freezer up in the barn, which is coated inside with a layer of ice which is probably so old that it began growing back when the Dead Sea was only sick. I dream about getting a new freezer!

You are almost exactly 20 years younger than I. My birthday was Wednesday.

My parents gave me a freezer about a year ago, and I wasn’t quite sure what I’d use it for.

I figured it out last fall - homemade stock.

I’m now the proud owner of 40+ quarts of veal, chicken, smoked chicken, and beef stock. Talk about the one secret ingredient that makes everything taste better!

Today is my Mom’s birthday, so I fixed her a lunch of frozen peas and frozen edamame. (Well, and Lobster Helper over rice, which is a joking name for a simple cream sauce with mushrooms, onions, and fake lobster meat).

It does, isn’t that awesome?!

I had to get one with auto defrost because I know I’ll never bother to defrost the thing. I mean, where would you even put the frozen stuff while it’s defrosting?

I thought this was going to be about a birthday vasectomy…you know, the classic “hold a bag of frozen peas on it till the swelling goes down”…kind of thing.

So glad you got a freezer! Mine was the best purchase I ever made…10 cubic ft. chest, which is a pain, but better than nothing. When I moved back in with the elderly mom,we just plugged it in next to her huge upright one…they are both nearly full!

Happy Birthday!

You know you’re grown up when a freezer is a cool birthday gift, yeppers.

I love stocking up on bags of frozen vegetables and those steam-in-the-bag meals when they’re on sale. It helps so much with the I dunno what to do for dinner when you know you’ve got something five minutes away from eating.

Wishing you a good day, a good year and a great life!

That would be me.

Happy birthday, Zsofia!

13.7 cubic feet must be enormous. My brother bought our folks a 5.something cubic foot freezer for Christmas, and they’ve yet to find enough stuff to fill it with. How many bodies can you fit in the thing, do you think?

Well, the thing with the upright freezers is that you can’t fit in as much as the chest freezers. I’d have to take out the shelves. I’d say two average sized bodies, possibly three. One fat person, probably.

Happy birthday, Zsofia!

I recognize your feeling; I had a special feeling when I bought my very first home appliance. Something about, “This big thing is all mine!” Congratulations on the freezer.

Happy Birthday!

I got a chest freezer from my fiance on my birthday 5 years ago. And a proposal of marriage!

I love it. I put like meats (pork, beef, chicken) in plastic grocery bags to separate them and so I can pull them out easily. A layer of bags of ice on the bottom helps to raise the food to reachable levels, too.

sigh I really want a chest freezer. I’ve got a teeny over-fridge freezer compartment, and when you combine that with a “warehouse club” (Costco) membership, that really limits your options. Happy b-day and congrats on your new present.
