So I woke up this morning, and it’s my BIRTHDAY!!! Yay! Or maybe not yay… I haven’t decided yet. See I can deal with this whole birthday thing in 3 ways:
Treat it as an ordinary day, and go about my business normally… IE, do a little work, surf the net, maybe do some laundry later if the machine is free, etc. (it’s Sunday, so I don’t actually have to teach today…)
I can be happy all day, because it’s my birthday! Yay!
I can go into a deep funk because I’m, like, all OLD and stuff! (36, FYI) I can sulk all day, and maybe go out and get stinking drunk later and feel sorry for myself…
I stayed in bed for a while pondering these three options, and then decided to get up, make some coffee, and look at the SDMB while the coffee was brewing, after some coffee I’d decide how to approach this whole birthday thing…
Well, off to the Pit first, because I want to see if there has been a response to a particular thread I was following yesterday, it was closed… Hmm… open another thread, and notice that the last post was made on March 31… Hmm…
The coffee began to kick in. Wait a second! March has 31 days???:eek:
It’s not my birthday today! My birthday is tomorrow!!
Now what do I do? My day has been completely thrown off!
Happy birthday, Astroboy. FYI, you share it with me. It’ll be an ordinary day for me, too, so at least you know that someone else won’t be treating it as anything special.
I will keep them in mind on my REAL birthday tomorrow… actually in about 4 hours, now. I have made a decision, however: I am going to go with method #2 for dealing with a birthday…
… and I’m going to force my students to sing “Happy Birthday” to me (in English! Ha!) before I will end class! It’s good to be the teacher.
Will all you young 'uns keep it down! Sheesh, no regard for your elders…
yeah, yeah, happy birthday and all that stuff. Is there any cake? Ice cream? What kinda cheezy party is this? You kids don’t know how to do anything right!!!
Happy Birthday Astroboy! I’ll avoid the easy comments about you and April Fools Day. But did it really take you thirty six years to realise that March has got the full 31 days in it?
As for how to deal with it, I hope you chose whichever one makes you happiest OR all of the above. Particularly the one which China Guy added, that seems the best one in my book.

I did make all my students sing happy birthday to me, and may even do it tomorrow as well! Ah! POWER!

That duck alarm clock you got for your birthday (Happy Birthday Astroboy14)! I think I have the same one (or one very similar to it)! My mom got it from Korea a few years ago and I wake up to its quacking each day. Everyone finds it quite hilarious when I show it to them.
