Clean your home. Light some candles. Celebrate your personal wealth. And say a prayer to Laksmi!
Americans celebrating Diwali.
My neighbour has kept the door open whole day, in case Laxmi arrived while they were having afternoon nap.
Happy Diwali.:)
Is this the holiday where you do elaborate chalk art on your doorstep, or am I mixing it up with Holi?
[And Holi is another holiday that sounds like a blast, running water and paint powder battles through the streets by adults!]
Yes!
The ladies of the house make those designs.
Thank you! I am a bad hindu though and don’t really mark the event.
Well, I’m a non-Hindu, and I remembered!
It’s time to celebrate Diwali
Everybody looks so jolly
But it’s not Christmas, it’s Diwali
The goddess of destruction Kali
Stopped by to celebrate Diwali
Don’t invite any zombies to a celebration of Diwali
Along came Polly
To have some fun at Diwali
If you’re Indian and you love to party
Have a happy, happy, happy, happy Diwali
Happy Diwali!
Cleaning: Check. Still packing and tossing things out
Lighting Candles: Check. Gotta use 'em up, as I’m sure not gonna store 'em!
Celebrating personal wealth: Well, money is right out. How about loving family and goofy pets?
Door is wide open; no chalk, though.
Now I gotta look up Laksmi!
I know about Diwali because on Friday an employee in Pune accidentally sent a colorful “Happy Diwali!” email to the global email list for the very large company I work for.
Lakshmi is the goddess of wealth. In our Triumvirate, which is not even remotely like the Christian Triumvirate, the Sustainer of Life is Vishnu. He is married to Lakshmi, because you need material wealth to sustain you through life.
Woo! Happy Diwali, all!
Typical Indian habit.
Its Minnesota, its darn cold outside, I’m not opening any door - the goddess of wealth would need to arrive to pay the heating bill. But I’ll light a candle.

Happy Diwali! We had a huge potluck at work and all wore traditional garb. I’m still full from the dessert table.
Got a lot of colorful emails too!
