Happy Doper Milestones thread

This year I completed my Concert Bucket List and have officially seen ALL my favourite bands and ALL my favourite songs done live. The last concert was New Order, with my favourite song of all time, “Bizarre Love Triangle.” I just stood there freakin’ right out the whole time and when the song was over I nearly started crying - all I could think was “I did it.”

Congrats !! And, how?

Well the first 10 lbs was just me watching what I ate. I had some help with the other 90; I had gastric bypass in June.

I just wanted to let y’all know that I just finished my second master’s, this one a master of arts in teaching from the University of Southern California. I’m still working toward certification, but at least I have the degree.

I completed the first term of my Return to College, receiving a 4.6 GPA and being placed on the Honours List, in spite of suffering the death of my stepfather on October 3rd and having to help clean out his house while still sleeping there, and then having to find a new place to live, and moving on the weekend of the first of December… and then having to complete an exam and five projects in the following week.

Also, I met an interesting woman.

A year ago today, two people who met each other through the Dope got married, and somehow managed to avoid causing the universe to implode. jsgoddess and I are happily celebrating today, and we are thankful to Cecil for inventing the internet and bringing us together.

My man and I are getting married on St Patrick’s Day! We knew each other in college, spent 20 years apart, hooked up at Homecoming in 2011 and now we’re in it for the long haul. Also, last week I got him to join The Dope. He jumped right in to the Celebrity Death Pool. Say hello to** Librarian1900** if you see him!

Congrats!

Thanks! And oops: He’s** Library1900**.

Damn how did I miss this thread till now? Ok the latest ones for me. On December 11 my divorce finally was finished. It started in 2009 when I was in Iraq and was the most painful part of my life. But good news, a couple of weeks ago was my 2 year anniversary with my girlfriend. It takes a special person to be willing to take a chance on a separated guy and stick with him through the tough times.

I’m also in the process of going back to school and finally getting a degree (IT). I am in the second semester. Hopefully I’ll post again when I graduate.

It has officially been 4 months since my registration with the SDMB.

Amen to that.

That would make it a post graduate graduate post.

Awesome! I’m also going back to get an IT degree. First time in school in 20 years.

Don’t wait that long. Keep us posted!!

As of last week I am 100% out of the closet. I’ve been out socially, to friends, family, neighbors, etc. for a long time and it has all been absolutely seamless. Work was the only last hangup.

Work has not only been fantastic, they are bending over backwards to help me and do things for me, and my latest meeting with HR repeated the theme of “you are one of our star performers, you have a perfect record of 20 years, everyone respects your knowledge, you’re our best corporate teacher and your Professorship brings great PR to the company…what can we do to make you happy and comfortable so we will not lose you? Just tell us what you would like, and we will do it!” They assigned me an HR advocate and gave me her 800-number to call in case any co-worker, contractor, or client makes me feel uncomfortable or harasses me - summing up last week’s meeting, “we will protect you, Una. You don’t need to worry about anything,” she said.

I never imagined my workplace would be so progressive about this; I was all ready to take early retirement (I’m only 44) when I went to them last week. All my co-workers are happy, my boss and VP are happy, all the people who work under me are happy, and today I came into work to find an inspirational card on my desk, signed by all the secretaries on my floor. It was so sweet it gave me goosebumps and sniffles.

Una, while I look forward to a day when there is nothing remarkable about anything in your story, for now, I am very pleased for you and happy that you’re working at a stand-up operation! Congrats!

Don’t want to hog up this thread, but I’m very happily watching my little daughter growing up and ever more beautiful (I really hope the Photo Thread gets updated soon), I’m busily improving my Android App (for more details, look at this Marketplace thread) and now, we’ve reserved a little plot (about 170 square meters) which we’ll be paying off during the next 2 years and on which we might one day build our new Home!

Posting this on Valentine’s Day, but for us yesterday was the BIG DEAL … the third anniversary of our getting engaged  (Chuck couldn’t want for Feb. 14.)

He gave me a lovely pin, made of green Maine tourmalines, and an Edwardian brooch, sterling silver set with three very large champagne citrines – provence says the stones are from the “Cairngorm mountain range in Scotland, circa 1900.”

AND, this a.m. he presented me with a bonnie kilt pin, also in silver, with banded carnelian from Cupar in Fife, circa 1910, circa 1910."

Did I mention Chuck is Scots-Irish

And how a bonnie, happy lass am I
