Younger daughter got married last week.
Our duties as parents are now done.
I am more than happy to have a new son.
Oh my goodness. Congratulations! He’s a lucky kid to have such a loving home.
(I will also solicit pictures of this redonk baby.)
Congratulations to her. May they have many happy years together.
Here you go. Try not to die from cute overload. (Happy Halloween!)
Omigosh - he’s adorable! What a cutie!
Completely adorable! Congratulations!
So I requested the pic be deleted because I didn’t realize it’s attached to my real life name. I’ll have to find somewhere else to host the pic. Sorry!
I am pleased to announce that Mrs. Siam Sam is now a fellow American. On Thursday she had her citizenship interview here in Honolulu, passed it and was sworn in as a US citizen. The entire process took just under five years, beginning with submitting the application for her immigrant visa and green card in Bangkok in early January 2016. And that is considered a fast track.
And she is also now a registered voter in the State of Hawaii, as this morning we went to Honolulu Hale, our city hall, where she registered to vote and then voted on the spot. (The voter registrar’s office is open on Saturdays through the election.)
Congratulations! That is terrific news. Glad you both voted, too. Voting is important.
Congratulations to Mrs. Siam.
My book GenderQueer: A Story From a Different Closet was published in March.
I now have a contract for my second book, also autobiographical, That Guy in Our Women’s Studies Class, which will probably come out in 2021 or 2022.
How wonderful! It’s hard to get anything published these days. I know you’ve been working on it a long time because I remember a thread about it years ago. I’ve spent about six years on my first novel so I’m well aware of the grueling nature of that process.
Congrats, AHunter3!
On a related note, Mrs. Siam Sam just received her first US passport. Yesterday, only one week after applying for it. She applied on December 17, it showed it was issued four days later on the 21st, this past Monday, and it arrived on the 24th. When she applied, she was told it could take two months, then it appeared in our mailbox in just seven days.
She is active on a Web board for Thai immigrants, and they have all expressed astonishment. Many are still waiting to receive theirs after more than a month. There is an Express option for people needing to travel in 72 hours, and that entails an extra fee. But she did not ask for Express, nor did she pay the extra fee. We’re wondering if they somehow thought she did. Whatever the case, she has it and is not giving it back.
Remember back when I lost my cushy corporate job and dropped into poverty? Remember my thread on food stamps? Remember all the crappy jobs, including the one I had to take the owner to court to get my paycheck? Remember the struggles, the shortages, and all that other stuff?
Well - looked at my last payslip of the year this year. I am now officially middle class again. Yep, my income now puts me in that category again.
Holy crap - that took thirteen years!
Congratulations!
So, uh, on the first night of Hanukkah, I became a great Auntie. I think we’ll keep him… !

Congratulations to both Broomstick and janis_and_c0!
It makes me so happy to hear that you’ve finally got your head above water. Congratulations.
