Yes, ladies and gents, today is Jerry Garcia’s birthday! He would be 61 if he were still alive…oh what do I mean, he is still alive in the hearts of me and my Deadhead sisters and brothers!
If I am ever elected president, my first act in office will be to declare Garcia Day an Official National Holiday. The 40 minute-plus version of “Dark Star” from the Europe '72 Tour will be played at least once on every radio station, along with lots of other Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia Band songs.
Nothin’ left to do but
!!!
Looking forward to this coming Wednesday…the Dead and Bob Dylan at Columbus, OH!!!
Ramble on Rose or was it Ramblin’ Rose either way. I’m going digging through the old bootlegs. Some China Cat Sunflower, not the recorded version. And a little diddy I came across of Jerry singing something about “all you need is left hand monkey wrench”

I’m wearing my “Ship of Fools” tye-dye and listening to One from the Vault tonight.
Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile!
“Wings a mile long
Just carried
The bird
Away.”
Greatest Story Ever Told
(“You know the one thing we need is a left-handed monkey wrench…”)
Not normally regarded as "Jerry Tune, " but sweet nonetheless.
You guys ever ever heard Jerry doing the Blue grass thing with, don’t hold me to this, Grisman, David maybe, its been years, but man that was good stuff.
I’m so mad that I only saw him once in '95 at highgate. HMMM
Odd name huh?
He did lots of stuff with Grisman, including a children’s album called “Teddy Bears’ Picnic,” but you’re probably thinking of “Old & In the Way,” a folk/bg album with Grisman, John Kahn, Vassar Clements, et. al.
The children’s album was called Not for Kids Only. “Teddy Bears’ Picnic” was one of the tunes on the album.
“Old and in the Way” was the name of the bluegrass quintet (don’t forget guitarist Peter Rowan; Garcia played the banjo), as well as the 1973 album.
For a long time that was the only record of the group available, but over the past few years the Acoustic Disc label has released a couple of live recordings: Breakdown and The High Lonesome Sound.
