Happy Patriots Day!

I wish a happy, if soggy, Patriots Day to all my Bay State friends.

As to the rest of you lot… get back to work.

I’m here in Massachusetts, but I’ve never had a job where I had the day off. I’m soggy and at work. (Although Pepper Mill and MilliCal get to sleep late.)
The last I heard, they actually intend to have the Boston Marathon today (unless I’ve missed something and they called it off). And the Sox are supposed to play.

As to the latter, I’ll believe it when I see it. All I think they’re going to do is end up making people mad.

And FWIW, I’m at work, too. It’s a little quiet, but most of us are here. It’s the holiday that isn’t!

Meh, Patriots Day is one of those Very Special Holidays for Government Employees, and not even all of them.

What’s open and closed on Patriots Day

Only state and municipal offices are closed. There’s mail and everything. Color me unimpressed.

I just got a call from CalMom in New Jersey – her basement’s flooded. In all my life, I don’t recall our basement ever flooded (although apparently it’s been stopped by the siump pump some times in the past). Serious Bummer – I wish I was there to help her out. FWIW, our basement is still intact, for the present.

I used to get the day off, back before MLK day became a holiday. These days, I’m glad to work. My neighborhood becomes a drunken, noisy hell. I took a cab to work today, and had to jump a boundry rope to get in. Apparently, from about 1:00 to 5:00, there is no leaving or entering my apartment building.

Bleh. Patriots’ Day is one of the reasons I’m going to be heaping-ass busy today.

They’re running. Instead of the usual noon start, they started at 9:35 this year. The reason? To beat the afternoon heat. I’m guessing it’s going to work.

At least my commute home might not suck. Usually it’s full of trash, cops, drunks, and closed sidewalks.

In fact, the winner, Robert Cheruiyot, crossed the finish line just minutes ago.

And… the Red Sox are actually playing! (Even though it looks like the game is over in the first inning.) Where the hell did the monsoon go?

And THAT, sir, is what’s going to make my commute suck.

I had to work too. The British company I work for didn’t give us the day off…imagine that!

A guy I work with ran the Marathon and finished in just under three hours. Pretty impressive IMHO.
