Happy Thanksgiving, Canadians!

I’m working nights, and sleeping all day, so my family is delaying the Thanksgiving festivities until next weekend, when I can enjoy the turkey along with them. My family rocks.

Because otherwise, the turkey dinner would have been my breakfast, really… and that’s just weird.

And hey, Ginger, I just might find myself in that neck of the woods pretty soon, so keep that gang of ex-pats handy so I can join the club!

Three dinners in as many days, of some variety of festiveness.

The canonical Thanksgiving was on Saturday at Mom’s. The whole nine yards - turkey, gravy, sauce aux atocas, rutabagas baked with apples and brown sugar, mashed potatoes, green beans, cider, and bundt cake for dessert. My brother’s fiancée was back from Europe for a short time.

Sunday, went over to a friend’s for his Thanksgiving party, potluck style - ham, macaroni and cheese, some kind of delicious casserole with parsnips and two kinds of cabbage, and something good but obscene involving sweet potatoes and marshmallows, for pity’s sake. Dessert was this ridiculously good bread pudding. Then we all watched Connie and Carla and flirted with the youngest/prettiest one of the guests.

Tonight was much slower but I figured I might as well do something nice for me and roomie, so I made a pork loin with mustard and rosemary, mashed potatoes with cheese, and salad.

We’re in the middle of a kitchen reno, so we told PiperDad that if he bought a turkey, we’d come over to his condo and cook it. So we did that while watching the Riders self-destruct in Montreal :smack:, then Mrs. Piper and I walked the dogs, then we did all the fixings up while watching the Argos keep Saskatchewan’s play-off hopes alive. :dubious:

So, turkey, mashed potatos, brussels sprouts and squash with brown sugar. Gravy was a bit of a disappointment - for some reason the turkey didn’t produce much in the way of drippings, so we had to supplement it with a Knorr package - decent enough in a pinch. A nice Chilean red that someone had given PiperDad. Store-bought pumpkin pie (I normally make it myself, but I’m hampered by the lack of a kitchen.) And then home. PiperDad’s making the stock tomorrow.

All in all, a good day.

On Sunday I hosted about 20 people for hors d’oeuvres, then we all sallied over a couple suburbs for the feast at the greatgrandparents’ place.
Yesterday I made tofu. Yummy!

Naw, you just need to poop a little.

Woot! Do I hear bells?

I started my stock just a little while ago. The turkey carcass I have was from the deep-fried one (smoked turkey leftovers = awesome sandwiches, but awful soup). The water turned very dark, as I left the skin on it. I don’t know if it’ll turn out well or not, but I’ll give it a shot.
