Happy Things

Mmmm… I just finished putting together some soup in the crockpot. I can’t stop smelling my hands… mmm… smells so good, even after washing them. Love that smell of chopped potatoes and onions, carrots and celery all mixed up together on clean hands.

Every time I do this, it reminds me of being a kid and Dad would come in from weeding the garden and hold out his hands to us kids while saying “Go ahead! Guess which part of the garden I weeded today!” and we’d sniff his hands and try to guess what veggies he’d been among… onions were the easiest, but we were pretty good at most of them as time went by. Good times

C’mon guys - share some ordinary, everyday “happies” please, whether current or remembered - I’m in a mood

ETA: Shoot… wrong forum. I meant to put this in MPSIMS… but maybe it fits here too. Mods you can move as you see fit!

Not a problem. Relocated to MPSIMS.

I’m kinda partial to brown paper packages tied up with string, but you don’t see too many of those anymore. :frowning:

Aside: Hoping your cats are doing well, Fluff.

My Happies usually involve small living things. I feed our herd of squirrels that live in the trees behind our house. There must be about ten of them. There are a couple brave enough to hang onto the window sill and take peanuts from my fingers. The food also attracts blue jays, crows, and some tiny sparrow-type birds. The cats watch from the glass door in the dining room and are entertained for hours. When I was baking at Christmas, I had plenty of demanding company!

I also spend a lot of time working in the yard and am so happy when a new plant joins the family. A few years ago, I had a large snapdragon in a container. That particular plant was an annual as I thought all snapdragons are. However, the next year a tiny snapdragon plant showed up near where the potted one had been located. Every year it’s gotten a little bigger, and last year it had two blossoms! It looks like a weed and is in an inconvenient place, in the rocks under the front steps, but I love that little plant. I also have a small fern growing under a large bush in the front yard. It gets a lot of sun which ferns don’t usually like, but it’s thriving so I figure it knows what it’s doing. There isn’t a fern anywhere near it so I’ve no idea how it got there. The SO isn’t convinced I didn’t plant it!

We do have ferns in the back. One year I don’t know what on earth happened, but all of a sudden I had about seven fern sprouts on the previously-barren side of the house. They’re now my fern garden and I made them a feature with some pavers, stones and bark.

I’m pretty easily pleased.

This has reminded me. This year, for unknown reasons, in a previously unplanted bed by the front door the entire bed sprouted something that looks like purple daisies. They’re lovely.

I got my tomato sprouts planted.

Every single one of my orchids sent up a bloom stalk at same time. I think that’s 8 plants. I’ve never had that happen before, so that’s pretty cool. The blooms are still forming, but in a few weeks my window box will be amazing.

First heard, then saw, a huge male Northern Cardinal singing his heart out on the tip of the neighborhood’s tallest tree.

My kitten just spent a good 20 minutes snuggling with me and he was kneading his paws by grabbing my fingers with them and squeezing… this made me insanely happy.

My fluffy cat (who’s not the sharpest knife in the drawer) demonstrates how much he luuuuurrrrvs me by sleeping on my feet. Literally. I’ll be drifting off the sleep and feel him laying himself over my feet and purring, then falling into a deep sleep.

It amuses me to no end. I keep thinking that it can’t possibly be comfortable for him, but he keeps doing it.

My dogs make me happy. Rozee a border collie mix tries to not get her feet dirty when walking down the road. Yep, it’s a muddy road this time of year with all the snow melt. She will stay on the snow patches where ever she is able to.

Kricket, a pointer mix is too cute. She uses pillows just like us humans. And I adore the way she wakes me up. She’ll stand over me and rest her forehead on my chest.

I put up a mailbox last weekend, the kind with the treated 4x4 posts. After I was done it looked slightly crooked. (although less than others in the neighborhood). Every time I came home it bugged me to see it. So I yanked it out and put it back in today. Perfect! My wife was happy with it and though I was being anal. Now I go to the front window and admire it on a regular basis.

I love it when I redo a project that’s been bugging me in some way and it comes out perfect. All that extra effort makes it so much better than if it had simply been perfect the first time around.
