Happy Victoria Day!

Did some gardening, but it wasn’t warm enough to chance planting the heirloom tomato or cucumber seedlings.

BTW, here in Quebec this holiday went from Fete de la Reine to la Fete de Dollard, to la Journee nationale des Patriotes.

Capcha, just wondering because of your name: are you from Cap-Chat?

I grew up calling it the May 2 - 4; and it was usually the weekend where everyone would head up to ‘the lake’ for the first time, the high school crowd would see if they could manage to down a 24 in the shortest possible time and the RCMP would be working overtime throughout the park. Rare was the year when the ice was gone from the lake, and in any case, Clear Lake could manage to be 15c even in August some years.

Camp for cottage or cabin seems to be a north-western Ontario expression - on the prairies, most folks call it the cabin or cottage, Toronto folks call it the cottage (even when it’s got more gear in it than my house in town!), but my Kenora friends refer to it as ‘camp’.

We had a friend called Mae Long in school, so we tended to say 2-4 or Victoria Day; not that I’ve never heard the term before.

I went to school in Guelph, lived in Hamilton and worked in Mississauga for 6 years and never once went to African Lion Safari. I also have never toured Dofasco, watched the Ti-Cats (or the Bulldogs) play, nor have I visited Dundurn Castle. I have, however, been to the Royal Botanical Gardens.

We never do the tourist stuff where we live, it seems!

We call it Dollarama Day in my family, because we like to believe that we are clever. I’m also familiar with “May-24” (which is why I thought the long weekend was *next * weekend this year!), and, naturally, Victoria Day.

We didn’t do much this weekend, and we’re happy with that. I’ve been off since the first of May (done classes, no summer job yet), so it wasn’t a big deal for me, but my husband appreciated it. We watched too much hockey (between the Stanley Cup playoffs and the Memorial Cup, it’s always on!), drank too much beer, made a cursory attempt to clean the house (it’s actually not that bad, since I’d done a major cleaning a week ago) and yesterday did some shopping. I bought a new bag and a bunch of clothes, and my husband bought some new cycling gear (clothes and saddle bags).

It was a good weekend, despite the cold weather. It’s sunny but the wind is cool today, but it’s supposed to get warmer this week.

and gun-fire!

It’s May 2-4 here as well, though this particular weekend involved an unfortunate lack of 24s. It was a little too chilly to walk through the park and see the tulips, though, whether inebriated or not.

And around here it’s “cottage,” and only people from the sticks call it “camp.” :stuck_out_tongue:

Huh? Wazzat?
My name is due to a one time weird sneeze i had.
Someone had mentioned (offline) that they thought it meant that i like to put captions (a la lolcats and so forth). :frowning: what a bad choice i made.
In any case i hope it was a pleasant day to all (day off or not)
