For the first time ever, I have to work on Veteran’s Day. WTF? It used to be sancrosanct but apparently a lot of people in the real world (I suck off the public teat) have to work on Veterans Day. What about you?
Incidently, Veterans Day is one of three federal holidays celebrated on the actual day instead of being observed on a Monday or Thanksgiving Thursday. The other two are Christmas and New Years Day.
No, and no one I know works today, but I’m in Canada (it’s Remembrance Day). I do know that it’s not a stat holiday though, and some businesses are open, including the breakfast place we’re just about to head to.
I have to work, but that’s because I have a wound care patient to see today. Her leg ulcers don’t care about holidays, and we’re just starting to get the better of an infection, so I don’t dare put her care off until tomorrow. Just the one patient, though; the rest of the day I’m using to play “catch up on paperwork”.
I make my own schedule, so I can only be “pissed” at myself, which I’m not. I’m not a veteran, so the day isn’t mine anyhow.
Most everyone I know works on Veteran’s Day, except my husband (USPS employee) and his coworkers. Are banks closed? I guess if so, anyone I know working in the trading market is also off.
First of all it’s Remembrance Day. Second in Canada it’s a national holiday but not necessarily a provincial one. Companies which are governed by Federal law have the holiday today (banks, post office, communications companies, etc) while it’s optional for the rest of us.
My company offers two floater holidays which are meant to represent Nov 11 and Easter Monday. It’s the employee’s choice if they wish to take them on those days or whenever they like. So I am working today but will look at some pictures of my vacation over lunch to make myself feel better about it.
My husband worked, but it is a holiday for him. They have to have coverage regardless of holidays, so he usually opts in. He doesn’t mind; he’s happy to have a good job.
I’m in the UK. The official ceremonies take place on Remembrance Sunday (which was yesterday), with the placing of wreaths at the Cenotaph etc etc. Today is a work day, although all work stopped at 11am for two minutes of silence pretty much everywhere in the country.
I’m self-employed: so I am working, but do not have to be. I’ll probably work half a day and call it quits early but that’s mostly because I didn’t sleep well last night.
