Hard Candy: Do Me a Favor and Spoil the Heck Out of It.

I don’t want to commit the time to tracking this film down, renting it, and watching it due to a passing interest. Can someone explain the thing and then spoil it completely for me?

Sure- I’ll box it for the faint of heart…

An older guy is trolling the web for underage girls to have sex with and snags a 14 year old. She meets him and goes back to his place, where penis ensues, but in a really bad way. You see, it’s a set up (I think one of her friends got raped or something), and she has decided to find a pedo and torture him. I believe he ends up looking like John Wayne Bobbit.

It has gotten very good reviews, especially the young girl. But definitely not for everyone…

Detailed spoilers here. The last line is great.

I just watched this movie two nights ago. It was the second worst movie I have ever seen in my life. Boring, hackneyed, and preachy.

(The first worst movie I’ve ever seen was Wicker Man, the current remake.)

Thanks very much, guys. I appreciate this.

Did any of you see any similarities to Audition? I’ve seen that, but not Hard Candy, which I probably won’t see.

I found the movie to be disturbing and effective, and from the 66% Tomatoemeter rating I seem to have some company. Yet, this is one of those movies that I am extremely reticent about recommending to someone unless I know a lot about their taste in movies.

I loved it. Very clever cat and mouse thriller that has the audience’s sympathies divided throughout. As mentioned, it’s the only movie I can recall having seen in theatres where the only people who got up and left were middle-aged men (I have a feeling they thought it would be a nice little softcore porn). A few guy friends who saw it with me were thoroughly freaked out, but ultimately enjoyed it and agreed that it was nothing compared to the onslaught of female torture scenes in movies.

EJsGirl’s spoiler was way off, FYI.

Is Hard Candy from the Andrew Vacchs novel?

No, original screenplay.

bummer, i like vacchs

Duh? It has Nicholas Cage in it. What, did you not see the trailers?
