Watched a couple of programs, ( hardcore Pawn) . My rating, Lower than Jerry Springer and Maury Povich. I this the way all low trash in Detroit is depicted, whinny and demanding and they only have about a four word vocabulary. Which brings about Les Gould and his two spoiled and back stabbing siblings. They have to get daddy to fix every problem… I have viewed other shows of this fashion ( pawn stars) and rick certainly doesn’t have to say fuck you to each and every customer and kick them out of the store. Les Gold, it seems that you are in the same gutter as your clients, your four word vocabulary and your actions are disgusting. I wont make the mistake of watching this trash agian.

This thread fits better in Cafe Society, so moving it there.
Usually Les will calmly ask one of his histrionic visitors to please calm down and stop swearing or shouting. Most of the time he treats his customers pretty decently.
My guess the way that Hardcore Pawn works is that anyone who enters the store during filming has to sign a waiver that their image may appear on TV. Perhaps the producers also tell people that if they are featured on TV (buying, selling or pawning merchandise), they will be compensated. The producers are not, generally, going to put people on TV who are calm and reasonable, unless they have something interesting to sell or pawn. So people have an incentive to behave in an outrageous fashion.
In short, the people you see are acting out for the cameras. (And note the preceding is just my guess how it works. I have no idea if I’m actually correct.)
I am not sure what your sentence means here, but anyway, it’s a “reality” show and people ham it up.
My son was on Hardcore Pawn. His whole bit was fake and set up but only because a relative he was with chatted with the production manager and they came up with a crazy story. There was no compensation for being on the show, I don’t know what they signed. I thought it was kind of boring, but it was cool to see them on TV.
My take on it is that some people are playing it up for the camera and some people are actually that outrageous. Some stories are made up. Remember, too, that each show is taken from multiple days. We recently saw a show where they were outside two times. In one shot it was summer, in another it was snowing.
I imagine if the camera crew is there and nothing interesting is happening they try to create drama, whether it’s by calling people in off the street of asking regular customers to be crazy.
I don’t know how much of Ashley’s and Seth’s childishness is fake or exaggerated but I wouldn’t want people to think I acted that way. I wouldn’t fake acting that horrible.
If you compare the earlier episodes to the latter, the siblings have really seemed to ham up their rivalry to ridiculous levels.
On one hand I know it’s staged to a degree. On another, I worked in a grocery store around the Detroit area and it was fairly common to get customers that could give those on the show a run for their money.
I’ve never been inside the store but I wouldn’t be against it. I’d like to see what they have. My dad saw Rick once at a golfing event (I think he got fired from HP for good last I heard?) I wonder if Les and his kids regret the personas they’re now associated with but I’m guessing it’s been great for their business overall.
I know the stuff with the Golds is fake as hell (they just aren’t good enough actors to be believable) and I’m sure a good chunk of the customers are just hamming it up for the cameras, but for some reason I can’t stop watching the show. I feel dirty.
