Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle

Not a fan of the genre, but loved Harold & Kumar. The interaction of subcultures (the two Jewish guys they keep running into, the EXTREME morons) was great, and, I thought, gave some nice insight into the filmmakers’ view of modern-day America. I note that the Guantanamo Bay sequel will be written by the same guys who wrote the first one, but this time those two will be directing as well; last time they had a different director.

And it was hilarious. My favorite line was from Tarik, the black guy in the jail who was reading Civil Disobedience or some such:

I’m middle of the road on that one, parts I thought were lame, parts were fuckin’ funny

Bullets! My only weakness! How did you know?
Also hate pot movies, also loved Harold and Kumar.

Well, if I needed any proof that drugs are bad and cloud one’s judgement, I have it now.

This isn’t my kind of movie at all - but I love Harold & Kumar. Gets funnier every time I watch it.

I loved the movie. I thought it was a breakthrough of sorts with Asian kids not being sterotypes, just being horny little dopers like everyone else. The bathroom scene was hilarious and the sounds of the girls taking a dump as the guys got more and nauseous had me on the floor.

BTW, White Castles are great. If you don’t have a restaurant nearby, check the frozen food section of your grocery.

Did you know that the silly Indian boy in Van Wilder and Kumar are the same person?

Another vote for hilarious BTW. Assuming you ignore the fact that there is a White Castle in Hoboken, making their entire trip unnecessary. Actually, that makes it funnier.

I’ve never eaten at White Castle - we don’t have them around here. We have Krystals, though, and the burgers look similar.

There’s also a White Castle in Brooklyn – a hell of a lot closer than Cherry Hill, which is practically in Philadelphia!

But then, “Harold and Kumar Go to Bushwick” would have been a rather different movie.

My favorite part is where they see the two guys exactly like them get their asses kicked in Newark.

They are. I think the southernmost White Castle is somewhere in the vicinity of Nashville and I ate there once 'cause my mom’s from New York and has fond memories of them, saying they taste much better than Krystal’s, but I can’t tell the difference.

Count me in as not a big fan of stoner movies, but loved it. Especially Ryan Reynolds’ cameo.

Ditto. I sorta enjoyed Half baked, but Dude…wow…I made it about 15 minutes in and couldn’t take it any more. I’ve sat through funnier episodes of Frontline.

Favorite H&K scene:

“Dude, those two look like lame versions of us!”

horrified looks as the two guys get jumped and beaten by thugs

And then they run into them again later in the waiting room.

Forgot to mention Chris Meloni as Freakshow. Genius! Maybe even better than his insane camp chef role in Wet Hot American Summer.

And while I haven’t verified this myself, friends of mine who like to imbibe say the increasingly ridiculous tone of H&K (from realistic teen comedy to cartoons and a cheetah ride) actually matches their high perfectly.

Is there a gender issue here? I loved H&K; even watched the final trailer at the end that went on for about 15 minutes of nothing. Mrs. Piper got up to do the dishes and couldn’t believe I watched it.

Best line was when they got the car back from Doogie and he gave them some cash, explaining: “You’ll want to have the seats cleaned - I got a little love juice on them.” It was that the line was from Doogie that got me giggling.

Well, one reason it doesn’t look like the movie could be revealed by the fact that when they pull up to the hot dog place (the name of which I forget), the closed store next door is a Shoppers Drug Mart.

Which is a Canadian drug store chain.

I’ve always thought he was one of the sexiest actors on television, and I totally did not recognize him the first time I saw the movie. And knowing him from OZ and cop shows I wasn’t expecting his comic timing and delivery- DAMN! PITCH-PERFECT! “Goin’ down to Georgia gonna git m’self baptized…!” And his funniest scene was mostly cut from the movie (and mostly improvised by Meloni)- the Hey Randy song that’s in the deleted scenes. (That’s not me giggling on the YouTube clip, obviously.)

H&K is one of the few comedies that I’ve ever had to rewind the DVD to find out what I missed because I was laughing so hard. I wonder if Meloni’s “Grand Wizard” in the Gitmo sequel is going to be Freakshow as well, and if Neil Patrick Harris (who’s in the teaser trailer for part 2 as well) is going to be gay this time.

PS- Since John Cho is going to be playing Sulu and Zachary Quinto is Spock, I’m hoping the new STAR TREK movie will be called Harold and Sylar Go to Where No Man Has Gone Before, but I doubt they will. Pity. I think a stoner comedy could do wonders for the franchise, with Tommy Chong as the villain and a tribble plotline called “The Trouble With Fur Burgers”).

I’m not gay or anything but John Cho is totally yummy.

Add me to the chorus of “I’m not a stoner, nor do I like stoner movies, but H&K is awesome.”

The Land of Burgers scene cracks me up so much…and NPH licking the leather seat. I must see the sequel!

FWIW, Mrs Tewesday liked it as much as I did, and neither of us have ever been big on drugs in general, and stoner movies in particular.

Actually, my favorite lines are the ones directly following, where one of the boys says something along the lines of, “You came on the seats?” And Doogie gives him a totally Barney dismissal look, “That’s what the extra twenty is for. A**hole.”

Man, I need to rent that…been too long.

And I’m sorry, but **Dude, Where’s My Car ** is damn funny. I remain convinced to this day that it was the script to Bill & Ted 3 that got some hardcore tweaking.
“And den?”
“No and den!”
Gets me. Every time.
