No, Discourse. NOT Harry Morgan.
DAY-O!
No, Discourse. NOT Harry Morgan.
DAY-O!
We are of the spirit
Truly of the spirit
Only can the spirit
Turn the world around
I have Harry Bellefonte songs on my iPod. I heard a few of them on Shuffle mode last week. (I only listen to my iPod on Tuesdays.) I love his music.
Daylight come, and he gonna go home.
Dig four foot, five foot, six foot deep.
RIP Harry.
mmm
I used to have both his Carnegie Hall and Greek Theater albums and wore them out. A great ambassador of Caribbean music, among other things.
Our African Grey Parrot, Rocco, loves Harry Belafonte’s voice. When we play Banana Boat he dances around like a fool.
He was like the anti-Kissinger. Every time I heard a headline about him, I was pleasantly surprised to know he was still alive. RIP.
Time for a rewatch of “The World, the Flesh and the Devil”.
The single best Muppet Show segment.
I liked him in his movie ‘Odds Against Tomorrow’.
My dad had the double album “This is Harry Belafonte”; I remember listening to it many times.
A Hole In The Bucket
Betty An’ Dupree
Here Rattler Here
Bald Headed Woman
Matilda, Matilda
and of course Day-O
I guess 25 April was his Day-O.
RIP, Harry.
Agree.
RIP
My faves:
He was a cultural icon for a long time. Living until you’re almost 100 is not the best way to be remembered for what you did in your youth. I’m old enough to remember though. Not only a great singer he was dedicated to civil rights and humanitarian causes. I won’t miss the music, it wasn’t that interesting to me to begin with, but his other efforts to benefit all were more important to honor IMO and to hold up as an example. RIP Harry, time to go home.
Sing a little louder!
Hark now, hear the angels sing. RIP.
In a Joan Collins memoir (Past Imperfect, maybe?) she described Harry Belafonte bursting onto the U.S. cultural scene. She pointed out that apart from his musical and acting talent, he was one hot hunk of masculinity.
At the time I didn’t think about such things, but once she had mentioned it I could see how someone might conceivably feel that way.
