came into the world in the usual way…
[pressing the PAUSE button] - Let’s dedicate this thread to the memory of Harry Chapin, who gave the world the gift of his music. He died 25 years ago this week. - [/releasing PAUSE button]
but there were planes to catch, and bills to pay…
But there were planes to catch, and bills to pay…
He learned to walk while I was away…
and he was talking 'fore I knew it…
It was 20 years ago yesterday that Harry left this world. Sorry to hijack, but his music was a huge part of my young life–I was 5 years old when he died and I vividly remember we were driving to New Hampshire when we got the news he died… my parents had tickets to go see him the next weekend. My whole family (travelling in 2 cars) pulled over on the side of the higway and had a good cry. The song Circle was always “our” song, me, my mom, my dad, and brother…
Oh if a man tried to take his time on earth,
And prove before he died what one man’s life could be worth,
I wonder what would happen to this world.
Thanks, Harry.
And as he grew, he said
I’m gonna be like you, dad
ya know I’m gonna be like you…
and the cat’s in the cradle with the silver spoon…
little boy blue and the man in the moon…
When you comin’ home dad?
I don’t know when,
But we’ll get together then, son,
We’ll get together then…
Harry, the cheap seats still miss you.
Does anyone know what Tom Chapin, Big John, or any of the rest of the band are doing? I heard that Tom was doing children’s songs a few years ago.
And Mobius, I think it’s been only about 20 years, but I’d have to check to be sure.
