Heloise is now inducted into the order of Potter-ites? Oy vey, as if she wasn’t desirable enough already.
Now when is that next book coming out! I’m going to riot soon!

This is so damn funny, and, I feel the exact same way.

Maybe we could make it into a reality TV show. Give the contestants five hot, hot hot items (Book Five, Tickle Me Elmo, whatever) that are impossible to buy in a store. Then send them out with a camera crew to watch them whore themselves to complete strangers to get the said items.
Fun, fun, fun.
Well, that settles it! I just went to the website and took the test. I am officially a member of Gryffindor! That just makes me happy.
Sorry for the double post, but I just read that the 5th book will be out late 2002, early 2003!
Also, Kenneth Branaugh is going to play Lockhart in the next movie! Perfect!
The suit was filed by Nancy (“N. K.”) Stouffer, author of a children’s novel called “The Legend of Rah and the Muggles” and a series of picture/activity books for young children featuring characters named “Larry and Lilly Potter”. These books were published back in the 80’s and distributed in a limited geographical area in the U. S. (mostly back East) in drugstores and similar places.
Stouffer sued Rowling claiming that she (Stouffer) owned the term “Muggle” and that Rowling, with her muggles and her character named “Harry Potter”, was ripping her off. Never mind the fact that “Rah and the Muggles” was the most gawdawful bit of stinking putrescence ever written (yes, I’ve read it–Stouffer managed to find a new publisher who is trying to capitalize on the lawsuit) and the odds approach certainty that Rowling never even saw Stouffer’s books (seeing as how she lives in Scotland and had never been to the USA prior to the publishing of the Potter books). Her website, realmuggles.com, will give you an idea of Stouffer’s level of talent: she has the first chapter of “Rah and the Muggles” there, along with a series of comparisons she claims prove that Rowling plagiarized her–things like “orphan boys,” “a mirrored lake,” and “a castle.” Interestingly enough, though, no one can seem to find copies of the original Muggles book (they had to use a photocopy for the suit) or the Larry Potter books. Stouffer claims she had potential sales of somewhere around $1 billion US (yes, that’s a b) including a movie deal that was in the works. Nobody can remember this, and conveniently, all her records were destroyed when her studio was hit by a freak snowstorm.
Stouffer’s suit has not gone well, though. I’ve been following it, and last I heard she’s keeping a low profile because her lawyer has dumped her. I think it will sink without a trace where it belongs.
If you have more questions, feel free to ask–this case fascinates me, sort of like a slow-motion trainwreck.
Harry Potter addict here. Love the books. I read all 4 within a week and a half…and it would have been faster had my friend not hogged them first!
Her studio was hit by a freak SNOWSTORM?
I started reading the first HP book on New Year’s Day last year, 'cause I was hung over and couldn’t handle anything that required a lot of brain power. Of course, I finished it the same day, and couldn’t wait to get out to the store to buy the next three! I finished them all in just over two weeks. Then promptly reread them, and preordered #5 on Amazon (back when they said it would be available in, I think, November 2001).
Well? Where the hell is it?!
I love Harry Potter! (and proud to announce it!)
If you like the series, check out this book ( http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0970844204/ref=pd_luc_mri/102-0178349-4460905 ). It goes into some of the mythology and legends behind the books.
And I read all four books in under 24 hours.
I’d almost agree with Heloise’s “evil” comment, except that almost any book is a time sink for me–I have willingly, and regularly, forgone sleep and food in order to finish a book.
Caffeine is my friend, oh, yes!
you may feel free to send Harry potter books to my former church www.myredeemerlives.com
They will burn them for you.
If my son wanted to read one, I’d let him. So far, he doesn’t seem to be interested.
(Hi Luckii!)
All this competition about reading books fast. Sigh. I do agree with Morgyn, though, I pretty much lose interest in life when I start reading. A friend of mine had to drag me out of the house Sunday to hit the beach and I almost blew it off so that I could keep reading!
Pff. You need to start hanging around with a better class of person.
Hummina hummina hummina hummina…
i just can’t wait until harry and the gang go through puberty and start having sex. now that would be a good book!!!
Sorry to nudge this thread down a lane of slight hostility but why is it considered an achievement to read the whole series in a short space of time?
Surely the longer it takes to read a book the better. You leave gaps between short spurts of reading to let it sink in. You add the excitement of picking the book up again for another read. You spread the daily thoughts about the story over a longer period of days.
It took me bloody ages to read LoTR (partly because it didn’t hold my attention as well as HP did) Because it took so long, finishing it was like the ending of a long journey, I really felt like Frodo must’ve felt. We had both got through this long slow sometimes tedius journey together.
Now to nudge this thread back to it’s former [nicer] path - here’s some breasts ( . Y . )
I don’t think we were bragging about how fast we can read so much as we were commenting on how well the books sucked us in and kept us interested. I’ve been a reading addict all my life. I’ll read while sitting in a chair or laying in a bed, while eating, walking, or brushing my teeth, but even I can’t concentrate for that long on a single story unless it’s (IMNSHO) a decent story told well.
Confession time: I avoided the Harry Potter for several years out of sheer perversity, because so many people kept telling me how good they were. Finally bought the first one at WorldCon but didn’t get around to reading it until a Friday night in November after a hellacious work week. The next morning I went out and bought all the rest and devoured them by the end of the day (about 4 am, as I recall). They were a much needed respite (and tasty, even if they needed salt ;)).
