nitpick The year they’re in is always the last digit of Harry’s age. So they were 11 in 1st year, 12 in 2nd year, etc.

Actually, slash is mainly written by straight females for other straight females. I read a LOT of Star Wars slash, and I might even try writing some of it.

As for it being child pornography-not ALL slash is explicit! And there is some straight erotica written-would it be pornographic if Harry and Hermione got it on? Why is it worse if it it’s Harry and Ron?

Just wanted to point out…the “virtual child porn” law discussed herein only dealt with visual images, not text.

And like a couple other posters, I always assumed that slashfic writers “aged” the characters to a more suitable age. A good number of the Harry/Draco stories specificy that they take place after Hogwarts. Err…so they tell me.

Right, there is a HUGE audience for slash in the Buffy fandom. Every single author and fan I know is a straight female. The only lesbian I know rights really hot het fic—Spike/Buffy.

I have been reliably informed there are /squid slash pairings in HP fanfic. I am not aware if the age of the squid is stated (nor what a legal age is considered to be for non-humans)
