After seeing this thread, I was wondering if the administrators had ever considered removing threads after a certain number of years?
I know we’re responsible for what we post. Also, there are some times where it is interesting to go back in time such as our Obama thoughts in 2004 or the Sept. 11, 2001 threads. But, with pay to post gone and everyone having access to the search feature, it might be something to consider.
No, no, no. Jerry spent a lot of time this summer restoring about 1.3 million posts he’d deleted (and backed up) because of space reasons. A lot of posters were really hoping he could pull that off, since it was a significant chunk of SDMB history. You can ask him to start deleting them all over again if you like!
I’m not sure if you’re suggesting this because of a privacy issue, but as far as that goes, people should consider what they put out there in cyberspace rather than expect it’ll be deleted over time.
There are times when I find searching through old threads to be useful. I will usually look through old threads first to see if a doper started a thread a thread about him/her.
I was amongst those posters. I’m pleased that the board’s history has been restored.
I believe it’s mentioned somewhere in the stickies (spelling??) or in the rules that people should remember that whatever they write here might be forever, and to act accordingly.
I suspect most posters wouldn’t stand a chance if they ran for president and their habit of posting on the SDMB was disclosed.
