Has anybody joined Zooba?

I’m wondering what the catch is.

Any book for $9.95, as long as you buy atleast one per month. No extra shipping cost.

Cancel anytime after three months.

It sounds a lot better than a regular Book Club. It’s mostly the typical book club type stuff. But I found several of my favorite authors, as long as it was recent releases.

ZOOBA

I have not, but will think seriously about it now. I have to investigate to make sure that they have the selections I need.

I have used Zooba for about three months. I can’t say whether there’s any problem trying to quit because I haven’t done so.

Every month, they send the next book on your queue. I assume that the advantage to them is that you’re spending a little under $120 in a year, whereas with a book club like QPB or Science Fiction Book Club, you have the option to decline to purchase anything in any month.

It takes about two weeks for a book to arrive. Some of the savings are excellent. The site itself is not hard to navigate but sometimes not useful (e.g., your book may be listed as “in process” or “shipped” for a few weeks after it was actually sent.

Also, some books become unavailable. Zooba e-mails you if this happens.

So far, no complaints!

It is too bad that they won’t let you browse their selection without being a member. I really would prefer to know whether they will have the books I want before I commit to them.

I used the search box to look for my favorite authors.

I’ve been a member for a little under a year, and I’m quite happy with it. I much prefer this kind of book club to the kind where they send you a couple of books of their choice if you forget to decline the selection of the month. Some of their offerings are good bargains indeed.

If I understand correctly, Zooba is affiliated with the Book-of-the-Month club and its sister clubs (Science Fiction Book Club, Mystery Guild, et al) and offers many of the same books, some of them cheaper. (For example, they offer the SFBC’s Robert Heinlein omnibus volumes.)

Are you sure about that? Hmm.
For what it’s worth, I’m also very happy to be a member of Yourmusic.com, which is the same sort of thing but for CD’s. (You select a list of your choices, and they send you 1 CD a month from your list for $5.99, S&H included.) Again, I much prefer this business model to the old-fashioned book/record clubs. It’s like getting a present in the mail each month—and one I actually want!

You can browse from here.

Love my Zooba!

I have been with them about a year now and no complaints. Well, they do have a more limited selection than say, Barnes and Noble or other big book stores, but I’ve been happy with what I’ve found there.

The best advantage is that you only get sent books you have chosen and put in a queu. I didn’t like other book/music clubs because I would always forget to decline thier automatic pick of the month if it wasn’t something I wanted. Now I am assured that if they send me something, it’s a book I actually wanted.

Right now I have about 46 books in my queu. And you can order extra’s in between your monthly shipment, for the same price, $9.95, no shipping.

Most all of the books are hardcover, so it’s really worth it. You can’t find bestseller novels in hardcover for $9.95 in the stores.

I have no idea what is going on. Last night when I saw this post I went out and tried it and it asked me for a login (as it did every other time I tried to browse.) But I was too tired to post and went to bed.

Here at work it allows me to browse. I will have to try it again at home tonight.

I easily buy one book a month or more. On your link the first book to come up was the Traveler and I just got that in. I am very intrigued.

I’m definately going to join. I’ve been buying used books from ebay and half .com, but once the shipping cost is added, it’s not such a bargain, plus I have to wait until they’re no longer popular.

Oh forgot to add: If anyone thinking of joining Zooba is a member of MyPoints, you can join through the link on thier site and earn quite a few points. That’s how I heard about and joined Zooba. I think they added 1000 points to my account for joining.

Are the books the original hardcovers or the book club versions?

The originals will have both a price on the inside flap of the dust jacket as well as a first edition notation on the back of the title page.

The BOMC puts out these much cheaper editions for its own members and that may be how Zooba manages the low price.

They’re the book club versions (or at least some of them are)—the same editions you’d get through BOMC.
