Has anybody seen the movie The Believer? Unboxed spoilers within

The Believer stars Ryan Gosling (who was great, btw) as a Jewish Neo-Nazi is based on a true story. Can anyone explain to me what the ending meant? After he died and he’s back at hebrew school and he keeps going up the stairs.

“There’s nothing up there.”

What does that mean? There is no God? There are no answers? What??!!

bump

I got that it was just a dreamlike sequence, maybe an Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge type thing that was going through his mind as the explosion ripped.

What a blast from the past! When it sunk like a stone the first time I thought I may have been the only one in the world to have seen the movie.

Loved the movie (and Ryan Gosling-- he stumbled with The United States of Leland but makes up for it with the upcoming Half Nelson). As for the ending, though it smacked of purgatory (which would make sense, as his character was both a Jew and a Nazi, sacrificer and the sacrificed), it seems to be picking up on the theme of “nothingness” as it relates to Judaism throughout the movie-- the afterlife brings no folksy visions of heaven or hell.

OK, mr. j p, you’re new here so you’re sort of excused, but please to go Forum Rules and especially Post #7 about resurrecting old threads.

We don’t mind bringing up old threads in Cafe Society forum (other forums care more), IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO ADD (upper case for emphasis.) Just saying “bump” is not adding anything.

I’m going to leave it open because you’ve got a response other than the OP replying, but please don’t start raising old threads again unless you’ve got something substantial to add. OK?

ok, sorry.
