There have been a number of threads fairly recently about the LasIk (with an I) eye surgery, in which a blade is used to cut a flap on the cornea, the exposed surface of which is then reshaped by a laser. LasEk (with an E) is a similar surgery but no flap is cut. The thin layer of epithelial cells is loosened with an alcohol solution and lifted (to be replaced later), and then the outer surface of the cornea is reshaped by laser. It is a variation of the original PRK surgery, in which the epithelium was scraped away with a scalpel.
The advantage of LasEk over LasIk is purported to be that there can be no complications relating to the flap because there isn’t one. The disadvantage apparently is that the healing process is slower, there is more pain and sometimes there is a visual haze.
I am familiar with a number of websites that warn about potential problems with vision correction eye surgery, but they seem to deal primarily with LasIk (I). Has anybody had LasEk (E)? What was your experience like?
