I’ve heard recently that there is a new eye surgery that they’ve developed since lasik was developed. For this new procedure the doctor doesn’t need to cut the cornea back to get a flat surface to burn. It can shape the eye topologically. Has anyone else heard about this? If so, what’s it called and what’s a good link?
That sounds like PRK, which was actually developed before Lasik. They don’t have to peel back a flap of cornia, they just carve off a microscopic layer. They do have to remove the protective membrane on top of the cornia though, so it actually takes more time to recover.
I’ve also heard that they don’t have to peel back a whole layer of cornia for lasik anymore. They just cut a little slit. Most doctors who perform these procedures have free consultations along with videos and brochures describing pros and cons. That’s your best bet for reliable information.
There are other eye surgery threads around here. Search on a few words.
The big problem I recall is that when you hit 40 you still need either reading glasses or driving glasses. Not exactly what they lead you to expect.
