Has anyone else noticed more people masking up in their area (May 2024)?

Same here. But of course, once masking became an “attack on freedom”, doing anything like the Japan way became politically impossible.

Gotta wonder how many of those folks would be as vocal about it if ebola was in circulation!

We’ve openly commented about how HEALTHY we have both been; no colds, flu, etc. since covid came along. But, I work at home and have never really engaged in the sort of “group” activities that would expose me to lots of viral sources. I pity the folks who are out in public all day long and have to make the choice between masking and not!

Friends we’ve known who opted not to mask have typically been sick – often severely so. A friend just spent 3 weeks in the hospital for a non-covid respiratory infection that caught him when he stopped wearing his mask.

When asked why I’m masked (often by folks who want to ridicule or intimidate), I simply reply “because I don’t like getting sick…” as if challenging them to claim they do!

[When you’re a child, getting sick means not having to go to school, getting pampered by your folks, maybe some special meals, etc. When you’re an adult, you STILL have to work, there’s no one to pamper you, YOU have to make/fetch those meals, etc. Are we having fun, yet?]

Well I’m going on an airplane trip tomorrow and I’m planning to wear a mask on the plane, for the first time in a while. That’s because I’m going to be visiting a bunch of my very elderly relatives on this trip. Several are in their nineties and all are in failing health. I can’t take a chance to infect them.

And they bring that virus home.
The longest break my grandkids got from school this year was a severe flu outbreak in their school system. Luckily they had had their flu shots. So they played for 2 weeks. Not even virtual learning because half the staff was ill too.

We all vaxxed up for everything. I mask for everything.

I’m seeing less and less masking. The big flu around these parts caused a resurgence but that’s gone now.
One more week of school and the kids will be here all the time. Nana is happy.

I’m heading to Iceland next month and will probably mask up on the plane. Transiting through the airport is the most likely time for transmission and it would suck to be on vacation and sick.
