Has anyone else noticed that almost every single couple/family in commercials now is interracial?

There is a commercial, possibly only on basic cable, for absorbent panties, and they illustrate their necessity by showing women waking up to red stained sheets. Just because you can doesn’t mean you should.

Not on subject, but I have a book in which John Gielgud is quoted as saying “I’m an actor. Of course I can play a heterosexual!”

I definitely notice that shopping at Target (a large American department store). I’ve been noticing that the visual displays include many plus-sized women, and even the mannequins are not all the typical “fashion-sized” mannequins one would expect.

Actually @filmore I do at least know OF people who seem to honestly believe that the various corporations are promoting these sorts of diversity as part of a philosophy more than as market driven business calculations.

It is just that those I know of are not those pleased with these representation choices, but those upset by them. The people upset over “woke” companies shoving agendas out that “undermine their family values.”

Anyone here watch Fox News much? My suspicion is that there are more all white families and fewer mixed ones in their shows ads relative to say SNL or The Bachelor or This is Us or even NFL broadcasts.

Is my suspicion correct?

Lol. Good Quote.

I have heard that advertising is dominated by the big corporate accounts and their marketing departments are notoriously cautious: they like the same old formats and situations year after year. Their big budgets pay for the bulk of the advertising.

There will always be innovative agencies ready to create a striking campaign designed to promote an image or brand. But the clients for that approach represent a small percentage of the advertising budget and volume of ads.

So has there been a shift in mainstream advertising towards inclusivity?

I can certainly see a shift in the shows……that are sometimes glimpsed between the ads. Some seem desperate to be seen as inclusive. I guess it gives opportunities for actors that have struggled to find work in the past.

A cowboy is sitting in a bar when a woman comes up to him and says, “Wow! Are you a REAL cowboy?” He says, “Well ma’am, I ride a horse, I herd cattle, I rope cattle… I reckon I’m a real cowboy.” Then he gives her a lecherous leer and says, “So you like cowboys, do ya?” She says, “Oh don’t get the wrong idea, I’m a lesbian.” He says, “What’s that?” She says, “It means I like women. In fact, all day long I think about nothing but gorgeous naked women. Kissing them, touching them, having sex with them… anyway, nice meeting you.” And away she goes. A couple minutes later another woman comes by and says, “Hey, are you a REAL cowboy?” He says, "Well, ma’am, I used to think I was, but I just found out I’m a Lesbian.

If I were a woman, this ad might turn me.

All kidding aside, I think that’s a very nice, tasteful ad.

My sister and her husband used to frequent Vegas but they soured on it. They didn’t want kids around while they were gambling. I could see Vegas wanting people to bring their kids—for example, family friendly places like Circus Circus. If you normalize gambling in the tiny brains as kids, maybe they’ll come back as adults.

In this thread there are companies that communicate to us and watch the sales figures etc. Vegas says, “Bring it to our town.” Great, but Vegas is about money.
So do average gamblers approve or take their money elsewhere?

A Canadian ad for a makeup product ends showing a group montage of smiling, attractive people. A guy dressed flamboyantly, an attractive but overweight woman, an Asian woman, a woman wearing a hajib, a Black woman, a blonde woman, a red haired woman, and a Latina. Guess they wanted most of their potential market in the same shot.

It would be worse than a crime; it would be a mistake to cast an ad with straight white characters when the business model targets minorities.

Hispanics are 80% more likely to have diabetes, which Ozempic subtly acknowledges with a entirely simulated family living a lifestyle that an ever-shrinking number of all Americans live, where newspapers are delivered by kids on bicycles.

Has America embraced its gay citizens who take Dovato? (not by the look of the comment section. For the love of God, please don’t look!).

But both these ads (made by the same agency?) come from the same stylistic cookie cutter. Notice how the target customer interacts with “mainstream” Americans professionals and socially. Either urban or suburban, the product allows entrance into a smooth, enjoyable capitalist culture. America’s immune system won’t reject you! You will be a fully functional gland in its system

That was hilarious. Thanks for the tip, I’m watching the entire series now!

OK, Slithy_Tove, I had to take a look at the commerical, and I recognized it. I don’t care for the guy’s look, but that’s his business, not mine, and he appears intelligent and well spoken.

I ignored your warning about the comments, and they made me depressed. People take the time to be insulting to someone who is different than them, really ugly crap. I’ve got to learn to heed warnings.
