Has anyone else witnessed this strange cat talent?

My cat is absolutely obsessed with feathers. She licks them as one would lick an ice cream cone (and with just as much ecstasy). She also likes doing this with those very soft furballs you can buy at pet stores. She’ll carry it around the house in her mouth… I’ve wondered if she’s treating it like a kitten.

She is present for the opening and closing of every window.

She’ll wait patiently by the shower, and when we’re finished she’ll hop in and lick up the warm water from the shower curtain.

When she’s looking for us (if we’ve gone out or if it somehow escaped her notice that we’ve gone to bed), she will carry her favorite toy around the house and drop it by the door of them room where she thinks we are, and cry out for us. It just breaks my heart if we’ve been out all day and come home to find her fuzzy toy by the front door. She must think we stand just outside the door all the time we’re out! One time I came home to find her toy beside the toilet. (I’m pregnant so it’s a reasonable place to look for me…)

My favorite… when she is very happy (especially when we come home after being out all day) she flops on the floor, stretches fully out, hooks her front claws in the carpet, and “swims” across the floor.

We had a part-Siamese cat when I was a kid who had a bizarre attraction for (and a freakish ability to hear) my mother’s jewelry chains (the thin, small-link kind you’d wear a locket on).

She would take one out of her jewelry box, and the cat would come running, from two floors down. The sound was inaudible to us, but not him.

I have 5 cats, and the same toy, the feather on a string attached to a stick.

All 5 of mine exhibit this same uncanny ability.

We have <cough> 7, and they all exhibit these same traits in one way or another. But, Flower Marie (better known as Bean Cat) has seriously been cracking me up lately.

She will sit right by me on the arm of the love seat and breath heavily right into my ear while I eat my ice cream. Not only is it air, but there is an audible sound to it as well. It’s like getting a prank call, and being unable to hang up.

When I’m almost through, I will leave a bit for her and share. Then her breathing returns to normal. Thank goodness!

My black kitty can hear the jingle of the keychain laser pointer as well. She immediately runs up to me and hunches down on the floor while making clicking sounds, in anticipation of the hunt.

What amazed me the most though was this guy’s ability to tell I was getting the can opener out of a drawer chock full of other metal utensils. Dare I say it was uncanny?

Our two cats do the same. And our (almost) one year old. Yes, they are chasing it together.

Next, he will be coughing furballs

dorfl

Way back a long time ago (okay, about two years), we had three cats (Butch, Buster and Baby, all orange and white) and a dog (Bronson). The cats lived outside ever since they managed to turn the stovetop on in the middle of the night.

Anyway, we lived out in the middle of freakin’ nowhere; and I had to walk the dog. Without fail, every time I went out to walk the dog, Butch and Buster would follow me around the entire route. Buster was absolutely devoted to me, and I guess Butch just followed him around. Baby was always too aloof to join in.

Man, I miss having kitties around.
