Has anyone ever been on an Earthwatch expedition?

That’s it really. Their website is here, lists of expeditions are here.

My wife suggested I go on one and I have to say I’m seriously considering it. Many of the biodiversity ones are particulary interesting, a lot of them are in places I have long wanted to go like the Galapagos, or the Skeleton Coast of Namibia.

I think their website gives a pretty good idea of what to expect from each expedition but I was wondering if anyone here had any first hand experience. It seems like we have a few people who might be into this kind of thing.

I wish I had first-hand experience, but I’ve had three friends go on them in the last year.

One went to Easter Island for archaeological research, another to the San Juan Islands in Washington for Orcas, and a third to New Zealand for dolphin research. All said they really enjoyed it, and are looking for more opportunities (2 of the 3 got grants/donations to go, and so didn’t need to pay, which probably also helped).

Good luck!
