Has anyone ever been told stay right here...

… in a movie, TV show, etc., and actually DONE so? And been better off for having done it?

The three kids that were trying to steal Carrie’s car in Smokey and the Bandit. I do believe they might not have enjoyed leaving before the deputies got there, after talking to the sheriff.

Well there was the scene in Airplane! where Stryker got out of the cab and told the cabbie he would be right back. The cabbie waited a long time.

In “Go,” Manny gets sick after taking 2 E tablets, so Ronna tells him to hide under some boards and to stay there, and she’ll come get him. Long story short, she’s almost shot by a drug dealer, is then hit by a car, taken to hospital. Then she goes back for him with her other friend, Claire. Manny is still there. I think he passed out and was more or less okay when roused.

First thing that came to my mind…

In the Harry Dresden novel White Night, Molly, Harry’s apprentice is told to stay in the car, invisible, until he comes back. She does, and as a result doesn’t get munched by vampires and IS available to pick up the exhausted-to-near-collapse Harry before he does collapse and something possibly comes along and munches on HIM. Seeing as she’s no good at fighting but very good at invisibility, that’s much better than her ending up a victim or hostage. It’s also character development, since following Harry where she shouldn’t or otherwise leaping before she looks has been one of her major problems.

You got it backward–Stryker was the cabbie, and he told his fare (Howard Jarvis) he would be right back…

Oh yeah!

I was thinking at one point about Jamie Foxx staying in the cab in Collateral when Tom Cruise went in… though I don’t know I’d say he was better off for having done so.
