You’re right. I actually have been lurking since 2005 
but my observation of Dopefests has been that they consist mostly of dinners and going to plays and that sort of thing.

Now that I’m not married any more, I find that I have absolutely no clue how to flirt via the SDMB. But the idea of dating a Doper is absolutely terrifying for some reason, so maybe it’s better that I just stay the course.

One of the first threads I remember reading was one started by a guy who was announcing his outrage and sense of betrayal that a fellow doper had had sex with his wife during a dope fest. IIRC, there were two posts in that thread: The OP followed by the sound of a Moderator slamming the door on it. I don’t remember any names and wouldn’t mention them if I did and I don’t know things turned out for the three people involved but I would guess at least one of them was not at all happy. Maybe some long time dopers will recall the incident.
I often wish there was a matrix of couples of the SDMB. Maybe there is but I don’t know about it.

These Dopefests are interesting… I could stand to hear more. Is there a Dopestories thread? I would search for it, but 5 minute gaps in searching make that somewhat difficult.
I’ve only been to one dopefest and it was really more of a dinner.

As Agent Foxtrot already noted, he and I had a year-long hookup that started here on the Dope. I’ve been to a few Dopefests, and so far no orgies have broken out. I do believe someone was giving me the eye at the NYC DopeDinner, though.
On an only somewhat related note, does anyone have any theories as to the cause of the demise of Dopefests?
I know there is still the GettysDope, but I don’t know of any others that still occur. I recall the SF Bay Area Dopers had a pretty regular thing, and I remember reading about a regular lunch thing in Chicago proper…?
