Has anyone here played the new PC game "Clair Obscur"?

I think so except for those at Sunless Cliffs which give The One Pictos…not sure what it does.

The risk depends on how much damage the enemy is doing. I don’t mind taking some damage, as long as I’m not getting insta killed. Even then Lune has a resurrection skill and there are the resurrection potions or I just carry on the battle without the party member and refill their health after the battle. I started out only dodging but now I will regularly try parrying.

I tried some parrying last night. I guess in the regular battles, it’s worth a shot. The damage I deal is indeed huge and the risk is low. I also get AP from getting hit anyway.

I don’t know if anyone else feels the same, but I’d like a mapping system for the localized areas. I was in an area called “Forgotten Battlefield” and could not advance. I ended up finding a lot of optional stuff…but I really wanted to continue with the main path. Could not find it.

Ended up looking at a Youtube walkthrough of that area and saw that the path was a slim little area I had not noticed I could run down.

Anyway, I am particularly terrible at spatial awareness and finding my way through things. It’s a weakness I’ve always had and GPS has helped me so much in cars.

Wish we had mapping for the regions we run through in the game.

I mean, even FFXIII had a map and that game was almost nothing but re-decorated hallways.

I read somewhere that there are lamps (like street lamps) along the route that leads you along the main quest. They are not super obvious, just part of the scenery seemingly, but they can point the way. Follow the paths with the lamps.

Yeah, the battlefield did not have that as clearly as previous regions. True,t hough. I usually can find my way along using lamps.

Yeah I’ve struggled in a couple of places. Not so much with being able to find a way forwards (I know the exact place you’re talking about on the battlefield though), but sometimes I will realise I’ve started backtracking to areas I’ve already been to.

Yes, it was that pillar of sorts that lead downward like a ramp. I just didn’t see it.

Still not super far in but have gone through six or so areas on the map. I do okay on Default/Expeditioner against normal enemies and plot bosses but some of the optional ones dispatch me without a thought. Mimes suck but I’ve beat two of them – I can’t get the super fast dodge timing down on those “strange attacks” and wind up using a revive item or ability instead. Beat the Chromatic Troubadour and quite proud of myself then got mauled by the second Chromatic boss I found.

Agreed with all who wish the interior areas had maps. I thought to go back and try a boss from the beginning of the map (he trounced me) and, passing back through one of the spots found multiple things I missed the first time despite having thought I was pretty through in my exploration.

The game is putting me into a bit of “new man out” territory where I was perfectly comfortable with my trio and then “Hey, here’s someone else… make sure you use them or they’ll never level up!” Hey, I was happy before! This is in no way unique to this game but was on my mind when Person #4 came on scene.

I was going to say, I’ve seen this in a number of RPGs.

I never like when it happens though.

How do I more quickly fill the break meter on some of these enemies?

Mimes, for example, put up a tough wall that makes it very hard to get their break meters full. I have been slamming them with damage and it seems to take forever.

Am I missing something? Mimes are the main focus here: we took about 15 minutes just to get one of them to breaking point(yellow meter full).

I am about level 30-33 and mid Act2(uh, I think). We just got the option to go fight “big bosses” that will bring the barrier down.

Esquie just got the ability to break through red/purle coral.

Parry.

I know it is a pain to pull off but I am not sure there is anything that fills the break meter faster than parry (which is pretty fast).

Once the meter is filled you MUST use a skill that says it can do a break. Random damage will not suffice.

If you do all that chances are you will wail on the enemy and win pretty easily after that.

Yes, though I just learned that break skills do nothing special until the meter is full.

I just defeated the second required Axon, which will make sense to anyone far enough in the game.

Hard to gauge how far I am in the game. Feels like…75%. Though I have no real idea.

I think it is a good, but not absolutely amazing game.

I’m sitting at the first, mainly because I got that far then had to run around the map finding anything else I could find, turning in quest rewards, grinding some cash for the weapons I couldn’t afford, etc. Now I’m finally read to tackle them and move forward.

I don’t know what I’d consider an “absolutely amazing” game but this one has had me pretty happy. More so than I would have guessed. I think my only real main criticism is probably when it wants you to do some platforming challenges (bleah) and maybe the sheer number of systems to noodle through for everyone.

Which one you doing first?

I went with Visages first and Sirene second.

I cleared Sirene down to the bottom then traveled out via the flag before the (I assume) boss fight to go spend my loot (some merchants that cost over 120k to buy all the weapons). It had been so long since the cut scene about what to do next that I forgot which one was nominally supposed to be first and just went with one.

I did Sirene first. I spent several hours learning what I think is the final boss about a week ago but have been busy with work and haven’t got back to it yet.

Have you come across the mini boss that you have to parry or you don’t get a turn to attack?

I agree with all of this.

Not the best game I have ever played but it is quite good and is keeping my attention (more than that, I am enjoying it even with some frustrations that are mostly my problem). Likewise not a fan of the platforming and I agree it is a bit too complex in its systems. Usually I like complexity but this goes a bit too far I think. I am still enjoying it though and I hope the EAs of the world take note on what a good game looks like.

Nope. I have bot gone back to any Chromatic bosses either. I need a world map fast travel.

There’s a number of one-shot encounters that are essentially Parry tests. Either you need to Parry to build Break or to stop them from fleeing or some other One Weird Trick that can only be accomplished by working that shoulder button. One guy can only barely be damaged and you need to instead Parry him like 100+ times until he gets exhausted. Luckily, he attacks in spurts of 10+ regularly timed hits so you don’t need to play 100 rounds against him.

I was only about halfway through Sirene’s zone when I thought I was there but finished it yesterday. Was a little happy with myself for taking her down on my first try and later learning that she’s nominally the “harder” of the two (based on camp conversation afterward).

World Map fast travel would definitely be nice. Luckily, things aren’t as far when moving as they appear on the maps but it would still help.
