I definitely played it at a slow enough pace. Save spots and so forth were always available. I had no issue setting my own schedule.
It took about 40 hours to beat and I did not do everything by any means.

Decided I wanted to play again (mostly for the music), and now it crashes on start. So now it’s time for troubleshooting while I listen to the soundtrack elsewhere, and I don’t like that.
Uninstalling and reinstalling at least got me to the main menu, but it’s too late to actually start it up now. Previous save is missing, so that stinks, but I’ll catch up much quicker knowing how it goes.
Oh, that sucks! Did you play it on Steam? You can try going to https://store.steampowered.com/account/remotestorageapp/?appid=1903340 and see if any of your old backed-up saves are there. You’d have to manually download them and overwrite the one you have locally.
Even if you do none of the “side quests” the game is definitely worth it and is not so overwhelming or time consuming, and it breaks into playable chunks pretty well. In fact, it is recommended to play through the main story arc without too much deviation at first anyway so that your leveling stays well-matched to the challenges along the way.
Man, I had no idea this thing would win so many awards. If it keeps this up, it’s going to be considered overrated, though only in a joking way. It is a solid game.
I hope the same company makes another JRPG, unrelated to this one. I see zero call for a sequel.
No luck. I play through Xbox, but the save is missing everywhere. No worries, I’m almost through Act 1 as it is. Can confirm, game and music are still incredible.
XBox has no cloud backup? That surprises me.
Glad you are rolling with it and having fun. It is a fun game and the music is outstanding.
I had no idea either. I find Steam keeps everything for me. I once loaded up Skyrim a good 7-8 years, maybe even 10 years, later. I did a new game, but there indeed was my last character exactly where I’d left them.
No, it does. It’s even on Game Pass, so of course you have both cloud saves and cloud gaming.
And here is a Steam discussion for the game where they say that they lost cloud saves.
Either way, I think you’re dealing with a synchronization issue, which can happen with any game that saves to the cloud. I used to have this issue with Cyberpunk 2077 on GOG and Starfield on Xbox.
Yeah, Game Pass has cloud saves, but for some reason I don’t have one for this game. I do have all the achievements though, so it’s a curious thing. Nothing more than an annoyance, as I wasn’t planning on starting with a NG+ anyway.
