Has anyone seen chowder?

I’m a narcissist.

Oh. OK, then.

I’ve been digging through the threads started by chowder and rooting about online for the names in his email and his original ‘errant’ name donated by his pissed uncle at registration! ( ) and in one thread he has a conversation with Asimovian about exchanges of goodies so maybe he/she knows more info?

I hope he’s ok and just busy being busy…

Missed the edit window.

Just dropped them a line to ask if they can help at all.

Asimovian? I did as well.

Hi, all. I got the PMs. Chowder was kind enough to send some British chocolates to my wife after her first trip to London a few years ago.

Unfortunately, my wife is now my ex, and after searching my Gmail, I can’t seem to find any info where he and I contacted one another. It may be that our communication was through PM rather than email, in which case, it’s long gone. :frowning:

I’ll keep searching, but I haven’t had any luck. My best wishes as well.

Seems like there was a message board for UK dopers at one time - or did I dream that?

Ahhhh yes, Nadsters… <pootling>

Non-American Doper Society

IIRC, chowder is a retired mail carrier. Would the postal authorities have any info? They’d know if he stopped getting his pension.

chowder isn’t listed as a member and things look pretty quiet there…

ETA Hello Sam, I’ll have a look.

I can’t see them sharing such info with a non family member tho

Possibly not. But if he is on their rolls, they may agree to get a message to him or his family. You could even luck out and get the name of a hospital he might be in.

I know a postman. I will see what he thinks.

[baldrick]I have a cunning plan[/baldrick].

I sort of know the manager of my local post office so I am going to stop by tomorrow and present the dilemma and see what advice he might have (contact stuff etc.). I’ll report back as I can.

Does England have something similar to our Social Security Death Index(in the US)? http://ssdi.rootsweb.ancestry.com/

It take a while for deaths to get reported, but it’s quite effective in 90% of cases searched here.

Hi samclem, oddly enough, when I did a quick search on the Manchester Evening News site, they listed something like that which I looked at and… it was a database full of American info. :smack:

I’m trying odds and ends (I had a brief look about for people in Mallorca as he said his brother had a villa there but nothing yet).

If anyone else has suggestions, chuck 'em in.

If you know the PO manager, that might be an excellent place to start. chowder was retired, but the manager might know someone who knows someone…

Mark me as another hoping Chowder is around.

Am I the only one thinking this is a bit weird?

Seriously, people are trying to track him down, in real life? To what end? Perhaps he would rather not have faceless internet people (and lets be frank, this is just a message board) trying to trace his identity through newspapers and post offices.

What if he is simply going through a hard time personally, and would rather nobody knew about it?

I mightnt be the best example, but if I ever stop posting here, I hope to god my family doesnt get a random phone call from the Dope checking if I’m actually ok, lets have a bit more perspective than that.
