English Football, how's your team doing?

My team, the magnificent Manchester City, have/are going through a pretty dismal spell.

They won today, beating Wet Spam 2-0 but previous to today had lost 13 of their last 16 premiership games.

They also lost to the sleeping giants of football, Chesterfield, in midweek but as this was just the Carling cup it really doesn’t matter*

*it does really but I aint gonna admit it

Super Jim’s Barmy Army
Shite start to the season - two points and two goals in four matches. But it looks like Carling Cup losses are the trick: after going out to Peterborough, we’ve hit an unbeaten streak for five matches, scoring twelve. And suddenly we’re sniffing around the playoff positions. The defence are still shite (De Vos own goal today), but Magilton has managed to find some smart signings on megre funds, and it’s looking like the desperation which led to him being given the position might actually turn out for the best.

And it’s just occurred to me, we haven’t lost at home since the first day of the season.

As a dyed in the wool Sky Blue I have to say that Reading did the whole of humanity a favour by holding the rags to a 1-1 draw.

Now if they had won I could believe in God

Oldham are currently in eighth place in League One. We had a poor start to the season - LLWLLDL, but the form is starting to pick up (WWDW) and we’ve beaten high-flyers Swansea, Forest and Gillingham. Chris Porter’s return to the first team has finally seen us score some goals (including a flukey shot from 65+ yards that defender Simon Charlton scored from yesterday).

Living darn sarf and supporting Oldham?

I asume you are originally from Oldham otherwise you’d be a die hard manure fan.

Y’know what I mean doncha?

I don’t really support any teams, but there’s two that are particularly close to me.

Bolton are currently embroiled in a potential bung scandal. Wigan aren’t doing as well as they were last year. A one-all draw yesterday. Against Watford. At home

You’d sooner Chelsea win the league than United? Chelsea are southern! ManU are the only competition they’re likely to have, this year.

Yes

I want Chelsea to win just because I like seeing Drogba run people over. Drogba just acts like other players aren’t there.

chowder - nope, I’m a born and bred southerner. Family is from Owdham, thought I’d go with that link as a kid rather than following the Liverpool / Man Utd / West Ham hordes (as it was then). They’re my main team, Farnborough Town my second team (my longest-running local club, although I live closest to Arsenal now).

Nice history. Shame about the present.

We are currently lying in 21st position in League 1, 4 points ahead of the illustrious Rotherham United who began the season at minus 10 points. Can’t even beat Oldham at home. Definitely poised to challenge for relegation this season.

Again.

:frowning:

Don’t worry, at least you have Scott Vernon. You must’ve been so relieved to get shot of Richard Wellens to get him instead.

As a Swansea fan I’m surprised to see you include us as “high- flyers”. We overachieved last season, mainly on the strength of a good first half, but since then our form has been patchy to say the least. The best part of a million pounds has been spent on new players and we are a worse team because of it.

The manager/ players are now coming in for lots of criticism, because they are being extremely well paid for League 1. We have many good skilful players who just don’t seem motivated. If they gave 100% every game we could accept that we just aren’t good enough, but the fans hate freeloaders.
It’s difficult to pin down the cause but most fans are now questioning the manager’s ability (so, nothing unusual there then) but we have got a reputation for removing managers too hastily and what good manager would come all the way to the wilds of Wales  with the reputation we have.

Yes, I am depressed, why do you ask? after two bad defeats on the trot what true fan wouldn’t be?

Okay, how about “would-be high-flyers”? We spent a lot a few years back and it didn’t help us either.

Sorry, I wasn’t having a go at you.
I saw a football thread, we’ve just lost two games, I’m pissed off, I posted, and now I’ve got it off my chest I’m much better

No worries, I didn’t think you were - just acknowledging the feeling, we spent and didn’t succeed as well.

I lived in London for several years and I decided to support the local team, which turned out to be Arsenal. Turns out to have been a pretty good choice, if I do say so myself.

I haven’t been following them too closely since I moved back to Chicago, because it is difficult to obtain info from anywhere but the internet. They might show games on some cable channel somewhere, but lacking cable this avenue is closed to me.

Anyway, they’re currently in eighth place with eight points. Middle of the pack and likely to stay there for a while.

Mr Rosewater I live in Manchester, England and as stated follow Manchester City.

However I also follow the fortunes? of The Cubs!!

Why? you may ask…I’ll tell ya.

In 2004 I went with some Americans to Wrigley, I hadn’t the foggiest idea what was going on, I just didn’t unnerstand the game.

BUT!! The beer and hot dogs were great. I also bought a Cubs shirt, which I lost after getting totally shitfaced and leaving it behind someplace.

I also recall going into a bar where there was some legend/curse put on the Cubs 'cuz of a goat/pig/elephant or whatever

It was a goat. And you left your camera there.

Ye Gods I forgot I’d posted that :smack:

I also forgot the name of the tavern :smack: :smack:

Senility creeps up on us all
