English Football, how's your team doing?

I’m a very disappointed Spurs fan at the moment. We had such a good season in 05-06 narrowly missing out on the Champion’s League after Wenger poisoned our boys and I was hoping we could carry it on this year but it just doesn’t seem to be happening for us. We are currently languishing in 17th place with little sign of improvement but i’m still not worried about facing a relegation battle, I know that we have enough strength to pull ourselves out of trouble and probably finish in the top half with the possibility of getting into UEFA again.

Lives in Leeds, supports Spurs…has the world gone mad?

Yeah i’m a bit of an oddball, i’ve lived in Leeds all my life but have always been a Spurs fan, it turned out to be a fine choice as Leeds are now slumming it with the bottom-feeders in the Championship which gives me bragging rights over my friends.

Hopefully the win will spare Stuart “someone’s gonna pay” Pearce’s job- he’s by far the coolest manager in the league.

Here’s hoping Bolton stuff Pompey tonight!

As for the “bung scandal” - Show me the money! Some very dubious reporting from Panorama IMO. Of course, if it’s true, then heads should roll. I stand unconvinced at the moment.

As cool as a pickle is our Stuart

Bit dodgy here matey

No smoke without fire and all that

I hate that phrase. I could go round raying you were a bank robber. The mere fact of me saying it (the smoke) doesn’t mean you are actually involved (the fire).

Well, Bristol City (my home town) are having a better than usual beginning to the season, although how they obtained 3rd place (in Division Three, aka “League One”) so soon after their poor start I’m not entirely sure. They usually look good for at least a play-off place, but this season I’m hoping for 2nd as we can’t seem to win many play-off games, most disappointingly two years ago against a horrendous Brighton side. For the fifth most populous city in the UK, the third division isn’t really good enough. Topping that table is my university city, Nottingham Forest - they should go up comfortably, but I hope City beat them.

In the Premiership, I’m a shamefaced Man U fan - hey, give me a break, I was 10 years old, clueless about football, and had to pick a team. And yes, I have been to Old Trafford - albeit to wait on one of the boxes :). We’ll have to improve by about 50% to have a chance of overhauling Chelsea, particularly in defence. The Reading result was bitterly disappointing after our good start, I hope it’s just a blip rather than a marker for our season.

i’ve never been able to fathom out why somebody who lives in London/Sheffield/Abergavenny/Llanfairfechan or wherever doesn’t support their own local team.

Bloody hell, there are more manure fans who have never been within 50 miles of mould trafford…keerist I even met some in Turkey…honestly manure fans in Turkey.

Yes I’m a bitter blue and proud of it…so there:D

I’ve supported Swansea for over 50 years but I don’t live there anymore. I moved to find work and have never moved back. I see them whenever I can and support them in other ways e.g. as a member of the trust.

Trying to support my local team just doesn’t work for me, I’ll go to some of the games but really I’m only interested in Swansea. I might enjoy other games but there’s only one team result that will make me happy (or not).

A bit off topic- can someone advise me if there are any London teams besides Crystal Palace in the Championship, League One or Two- don’t want to start a new thread- thanks!

Millwall, I think that’s it.

In the Championship: QPR

League 1: Brentford, Millwall, Leyton Orient

League 2: Barnet

Thanks! Another off topic- how does a city that size support a dozen or so teams? It would be like New York City having 12 football teams- unthinkable.

Easily mate.

Furthermore there are more, many more than a dozen.

There are the Amateur teams, the semi-pros to consider. All of these have their die hard fans.

Remember that when a Briton supports a team he supports that team and no other…he is married to them, he sticks with them through the good and bad times, it doesn’t matter because they are his chosen gods.

Vetch I meant people who are born in,for example, London who support Man U.

You on the other hand are a true fan, you live out of Swansea and despite that still support them, good on yer matey. Matter of fact your name says it all

If I moved out of Manchester nothing and nobody on this planet would ever destroy my love of Manchester City

Glad to see Liverpool have finally started winning - just need to overtake Everton and life will be back in its natural order.

Gotta say Chelski look like they’ll take the title again

Man Utd look good for Champions League (should beat Benfica tonight) and Liverpool should do some damage in the FA Cup.

Arsenal look a bit rusty, to be honest… top five, but not title contenders.

Have to admit I have a soft spot for Liverpool.

The one team, apart from manure, that I can’t take to is Fulham. Don’t know why this is but I just don’t like 'em

There are a few Premiership managers that bug the hell out of me…

Chris Coleman
Mark Hughes
Sam Allerdyce
Martin Jol
Jose Morinho

… you can guarantee this lot will complain about every single decision that doesn’t go their way, but when their team benefits from a didgy decision “they just didn’t see it, guv”.

Mark Hughes and Chris Coleman are by far the worst for this… really unlikeable individuals who blame their lacklustre team performances on the ref.

Suart Pearce, on the other hand, has always maintained that decisions balance out over a season, and for that he gets my respect.

So you don’t like Coleman and I don’t like Fulham…are you married…oh and female
