UK Football, How's your team doing?

My team, Manchester City, are doing just fine.

After a mild upset in which Chelsea thrashed us 6-0 :frowning: we have bounced back and are currently in 3rd place in the premier division.

We’re also through to the quarter finals of the Carling Cup and this time we have a home game against Spurs.

This season, following the appointment of Sven Goran Eriksson as manager, has seen City play some excellent football thanks to the astute buying of some foreign players, Elano and Petrov being 2 outstanding players.

So then, how’s your lot doing?

Meh.

Not our season yet, but tonight’s game against Beshiktas will be a real pivot point in the campaign.

Fifth, with a game in hand, and 1-1 with Sheffield Utd as I type. Should’ve got three points on Sunday (well, we didn’t deserve them, but we should’ve got them anyway  ). Norwich are bottom and losing at home BWAAHH HAAA HAHAA!!!

More importantly, though, we’ve got an investor. A private businessman, buying the club’s debt, leaving the current management to get on with what they’re doing. Exactly the kind of guy you want taking over - this is from an open letter published in the local paper, in response to one by the editor:

Can’t complain about that.
Plus, even if he did want to do the dirty on us and sell the ground, he couldn’t, even though he’ll now own the stadium. The ground itself is, and always has been, owned by the town council. A few years ago it looked like we were financially screwed because of this, effectively mortgated to the hilt on a leasehold. Now, it’s clear that it was an astute move by true fans when the Cobbolds turned down the offer to buy the land outright back in the 1970s, saying it should remain a part of the town.

Celtic (in case you hadn’t guessed from my username) - we are currently top of the SPL, three points ahead of the evil soapdodging scumbags from Govan.

Champion’s League - not so good. Just beat Benfica tonight in Glasgow, but our form is patchy. Qualification for the second round would be miraculous.

Yeeeeeeeesssssssssss!

Liverpool 8-0 Besiktas!

Have some of that.

Not too bad, but we’re missing a good no nonsense centre back. I fear that although we lie in 4th (league one) it’s going to be the same old story at the end of the season. At best a play off place and losing out- at worst (I hope!) mid - table mediocrity again.

I’m a Jack by the way, that’s a Swansea fan for those who don’t know.

At least we’re still above Leeds for the time being.

Yeah, but it was kinda like there was only one team on the pitch for the last half hour :stuck_out_tongue:

Hmmm, I watched the game and from what I observed there was a hint off offside for 5 of the goals, for 2 of them Besiktas should have had a free kick awarded to them for previous fouls, the only goal worthy of anything was Crouches last one and that was a fluke.

just winding you up, Liverpool outplayed 'em from start to finish

I’ll get my coat…

But being a City supporter I fully expect half our team to be signed by Chelsea in January, Sven to piss off to a bigger club at the end of the season and our chairman to be standing penniless in front of a Thai firing squad this time next year.

Because it’s CITY and that’s just how life is.

Being a City supporter and therefore a supreme optimist as well as a member of the finest and most loyal fans in the country if not the know universe, I fully expect us to win the Premiership, Carling Cup and FA Cup this season.

Next season I expect the Champions league trophy to be added to all the above.

I also expect Sven to be given an honorary knighthood and Thaksin to be PM of the UK

Because they are CITY and that’s just how life is.

To my friend from Bolton:

You should have fought tooth and nail to hang on to Big Sam, little Sam hadn’t a cat in hells chance of following in his footsteps

I prefer your ‘reality’. I’ve been a City fan since the mid 60’s and the bad times, the defeats prised from the very jaws of victory with a crow-bar, are burned on my cortex.

I’ve been a City fan since December 1941 when I was brought kicking and screaming into a cold harsh world full of rickets, TB, food rationing and the odd bomb.

I watched City beat Birmingham 3-1 when Trautmann broke his neck and still played on, I’ve seen them win 3 Wembley finals, seen 'em beat Newcastle 4-3 to win the league and I’ve also seen them tumble into the abyss of Div1.

Nothing has ever shaken my belief in them, cut me and I bleed Sky Blue.

Almost forgot, I watched Denis Law backheel THAT goal, one of the happiest days of my life. A day when my brother and myself wept tears of joy

Wolves. Errr…where’s my coat?

Cool! Yes - I remember that Denis Law moment. The sadness on his face knowing what he’d done. I was anything but sad though.

And Dickov’s Finest Hour? It was the next day when I found out the final result. I’d gone to the pub around the 80th minute to drown my sorrows like unwanted kittens.

Unwanted kittens?

You sure you’re a blue?

Incidentally, despite my bringing up my son to support City, he turns to me at age 12 and tells me he supports Leeds, he still does to my eternal shame.

He is not mentioned in my will

Adoption or Shunning. I can see no other alternatives.

I’m pretty certain they got them mixed up in the hosptal. Somewhere in Leeds there is a die hard City fan.

Adoption is not an option, he’s 42

Shunning it is then.

I watched Leeds quite a lot around '74-'76 because I was at college there. This was just after Clough’s departure. Man - they really were as nasty a bunch of players as I’ve ever seen.

On the plus side City gave them a regular kicking in those days.

Oldham Athletic. Bah.
