Has anyone seen The Cobbler, the Adam Sandler movie? I wanna know how it ends

That’s kind of my point. Even these “disappointments” were profitable, with one exception.

Is the chart domestic? “Jack and Jill” worldwide made $150M on a $80M budget. “Blended” has done $130M so far worldwide on a $40M budget. “That’s My Boy” actually did flop, losing something like $10M. Even taking advertising into account, that’s solid return on investment.

Those aren’t Marvel Studios numbers, but those are solid profits. That’s the hallmark of an “Adam Sandler movie”. Of low quality but turns a reasonable profit. If that’s “disappointing”, may we all have such disappointments in our financial statements.

I’m not too shocked “The Cobbler” hasn’t been promoted heavily. It’s not a typical Sandler movie, and people still remember “Punch Drunk Love”.

I keep making an ass of myself by assuming things that are not true. Every time I do, I realize that I’ve done that and I think that I’ve learned the lesson and I vow never to do it again.

And yet, in almost no time, I do it again. I can’t understand why I can’t seem to learn that lesson. It may have something to do with Jack & Jill. After seeing that horrible piece of crap, I vowed to never again watch a film featuring Sandler. But apparently my vows aren’t worth much.

In any case, I thank you for correcting me and I will try once more to learn that lesson and catch myself from doing that again.

I got The Cobbler and I’m about half way through. I think it’s a wonderful film. I can’t remember ever seeing a movie featuring Adam Sandler that I really enjoyed. I’ve seen Spanglish.

<Changing Gears now>

I also saw The Station Agent (Sandler wasn’t in that film). People seemed to really enjoy that film. But I never got why it was a good film. It seemed mediocre at best to me.

Can anyone here explain in a sentence or two why they thought that was such a good film?

Thanks.

I’m glad a couple more people have seen it!
It really is a good movie.

That’s becoming a popular release model for smaller films that are aimed at niche audiences. It is in no way an indicator that the film will be bad. It’s just a marketing decision about what kind of release will be most effective at reaching the intended audience. If it’s expected to have a small audience, best to just release it theatrically only in large markets, then let people who live farther out see it on PPV. I’ve seen at least a couple of films that have been released this way and they’ve been good- it’s just that they wouldn’t have had mass appeal.

A good movie? It is one of the best I’ve ever seen.

I can’t imagine any movie critic who didn’t like it.

This is a film for the ages. A truly great film.

“Max, you are a cobbler. You are a keeper of souls!”

What a line! What a movie! Do yourself a favor. If you’ve never seen it, see it as soon as you can.

The fact that the lead is Adam Sandler is irrelevant. They could have had any actor star as the lead.

I’m thinking maybe one time this director may have been in trouble and Sandler did him a favor and so now he found a way to give Sandler some payback. Maybe. Maybe not. It’s just a personal fantasy of mine to explain this. But it doesn’t matter. It doesn’t change a thing about the movie. It’s a wonderful movie.

IMDB rated it at 5.7? That is a travesty. IMHO, It is at least an 8.0.

Welp, his slump compared to earlier releases seems to be documented pretty well:

And his bosses at Sony weren’t crazy about his personality, either. Especially since he asked for so much $$:

In fact, some think that he’s overpaid:

Having awful openings that gradually turn a profit doesn’t sound like a great deal if you’re paying your star huge amounts of cash.

I got a chuckle out of this. I love seeing this kind of enthusiasm for an 8.0, I can’t imagine how you’d review a 9.0 or a 10.

Too late for an edit.
Charlie Wayne, looking back and reading how you sometimes second guess the way you express yourself in your posts, I just want to say I’m not making fun of you. I genuinely enjoyed the enthusiasm of your post. Having it all lead up to an 8.0 made me chuckle in a good way.

I don’t know why I feel like I’m being scolded; but when I say “an Adam Sandler Movie” I mean any move that he’s in; regardless if he has anything else to do with the production of it.

Good to know. It used to be if a movie was released to video before it was seen in the theaters it was probably a real dud. I made the leap of logic that if it’s released to video at the same time as the theatrical release; that it’s probably going to suck as well.

Well, …

Stick around and I’ll show you.

I enjoy you being a member.

I enjoy your posts. I think they are real good.

By the way, I don’t love everything. Heh. Heh. Heh.

There are plenty of films, books, plays, etc. that I strongly dislike. I hate some stuff too.

But I loved this movie and I like your posts. So … indeed … Do stick around.

I thank you and I never for an instant thought you were making fun of me.
I once got very angry with another member here and I said something extremely nasty about their screen name. But after several months, I thought better of it and I decided to apologize to them. They must not have expected that apology because it had been so long ago.

Anyway, I sent them an apology in the form of a Private Message and I’d like to share with you a part of their reply. I’m certain that I’m not betraying any kind of confidentiality issue here. But this touched me and I’d like to share it with you.

No worries. My screen name is that of BLEEPED OUT. If you can’t make fun of that, I don’t know what you can make fun of. Honestly, I never gave it a moment’s thought. Cheers.

I had no interest in this movie even after watching the trailer but after reading the spoiler I’ll probably check it out once it comes on Netflix or something.

After reading this thread I had to watch it. I’m fine with Sandler but it’s Buscemi I like. I was not disappointed. I feel like any compliment I make will reveal too much.

It happens quite often and I don’t even need to be loaded.

It helps. But it’s really not needed. Honest!

Zappity Do Dap. Zip Zap! Holy Crap! And that is how it’s done. You bet 'cha!

BUMP:

Just thought I’d mention this movie is on Netflix now.

I just watched it. Decent flick, I’d recommend it.
