Has Anyone Seen The Mother (2003)?

I rented this film last night and am going to watch it in a bit. Has anyone seen it? It looks really good. By the way, what exactly is a “British kitchen sink drama”?

I’ll come back and post my thoughts after I watch. Spoilers are fine, obviously.

Kitchen sink drama.

Thanks, Ross! I thought it was probably something along those lines.

I just finished watching it about an hour ago and thought it wonderful. The cinematography was beautiful. The use of background music was teriffic – the director only used it in a completely silent scene. The dialougue was allowed to stand on its own.

About the story… I found it extremely well written and it isn’t something that’s been done to death. I was suprised at how explicit a couple of the scenes were, but they weren’t tasteless or simply for shock value, IMO. I found them rather lovely, TBH.

Hated the kids. Hated the kids so, so much. While May made a… well, debatable choice, those fucking kids should just die somewhere. “You never touched me, mum! That’s why I’m sleeping with a married man!” [Lest that sound like hack dialouge, it perfectly fits the charecter, trust me.]

Anyway, beautiful film and one that I’m actually going to buy for repeat viewings. Highly reccommend it.

Anyone? Bueller?

Exercising my right to bump once.

Anyone? If not, it comes highly recommended by myself and Mrs. Chatelaine.

And that clearly should be enough to make you run out and rent it!
