Has anyone seen the new Oliver Twist movie, directed by Roman Polanski?

I have tickets to an advance screening down in Albany, and I am wondering if anyone has seen it yet. (I can’t tell if it’s officially released - it’s possible it’s just an advance screening for this theatre.)

What do you guys think? Is it worth it? It is free, but it’s* Oliver Twist * - has to be done well or not at all.

I haven’t seen it, but I’m very interested in hearing about it. I love Roman Polanski’s directing, and OT is a favorite story of mine. Who plays Fagin in this version? That’s a plum role for a good character actor.

Ben Kingsley.

Entertainment Weekly has an interview with Polanski in this week’s issue – apparently it’s a rather, um, Polanksiesque version – not rosy-cheeked cherubs. Sounds interesting.

The movie is open in NY/LA and is going wide next Friday.

I havn’t seen it and I don’t particularry like Roman’s directing.

Fagin drugs and rapes a 13 year old?

I’ve only seen a very few, brief snippets in trailers; these bits look strikingly like the 1968 version, just sans the cheery musical numbers. There must be more to it than that, but (especially the scene where Oliver is fingered for shoplifting) I truly thought I was being shown scenes from the other movie.

Does Polanski drug and rape Oliver Twist in this film?

And you beat me to it.

So, any drugging; raping?

Eh, only by seven hours.

I thought The Pianist was amazing, so I’m going to make the effort to see this.
