Has Anyone That's Been Banned Been Allowed Back?

Ha. I don’t really know why I do that, but I do.

Well, he is a Yankees fan, so there’s a little black shard of evil in there somewhere.

They don’t call him the Administerminator for nothing.

I had assumed (obviously I was wrong) that you were no longer on the SDMB staff since it doesn’t say “Moderator” or “Administrator” under your name. Are you in fact still part of the staff, and if so, why was the title removed?

Thanks.

I am still an administrator, with all the abilities of one. That is, I can ban people, I can give them infractions, I can close threads, I can even modify the message board to some degree. I can go into the Admin and Mod control panels, and I can access the supersecret forum where we put all the Make Money Fast posts. I’m still in the mod email loop, and I offer my opinion when I have one.

However, I’m no longer very active, due to various issues, mostly due to my health. If I see a spam thread, I will generally take care of it and ban the spammer. I will particularly do this if the spammer is active and creating new threads. For the most part, though, I don’t give out warnings or notes, but I will Report the problem thread or posts, just as a regular poster would. Sometimes I bring up a problem in the mod email.

I don’t use my title because that would imply that I’m still an active mod staff member, and I’m not. People used to PM and email me with questions and problems, and sometimes I take a couple of days off from the SDMB, and even am off the internet. Sometimes this is for my health, sometimes it’s because Charter fucked up again. Then those people get pissed at me because I didn’t respond within 10 minutes.

This guywas a notorious troll who came in under 2 or 3 different usernames and got himself banned under all of them. He happened to know a member IRL who persuaded him to change his attitude, and subsequently he applied for reinstatement under a new name, and was accepted back. His reformed his behavior and is a well-liked member.

Gotcha.

Thanks for the reply.

But damn it took you long enough. Geez!

wow, last logged in 2 days ago, last thread created in 2003…

I’m pretty sure this just happened … quick search … here it is

Yes. In fact his postings would barely get him Warned today, more likely just a “Mod note”. But I had heard his PM’s to the Staff were hwaaay out of line, thus despite what we see publically, he not likely not be allowed back.

There’s a couple other prolific posters from the old days who were banned for things that would likely not cause a permanent banning today.

I STAND BEFORE YOU.

Its a Credit to admin that they kept open minds

But I don’t think you really qualify, as you apparently were banned under suspicion of being someone else that you weren’t, rather than banned for an actual infraction.

This is true but they, for the most part, flagrantly broke the rules of the day and were given plenty of chances. Other than Ed’s hissy fit referenced earlier, no banning has ever really surprised me.

Actually I think we’d be harder on him today and so would the community; he was rude and disruptive.

I don’t know that we’d get that kind of cult of personality thing happening here today, people are less inclined to be fanbois.

And yes, behind the scenes there was an endless stream of emails,PMs, IMs. IIRC after we banned him not only did he try to sneak back in a gazillion times, he also attempted some kind of board hack. Or maybe that was before we banned him, I don’t remember exactly, it’s been ten years. Some of that backstage stuff was pretty heinous, we didn’t share it because it would just be inflammatory. One campaign does stick out; he kept hassling us about wanting to be a moderator. Said he was entitled to be one “because I’m the most popular person here.”

Well, if you made him a mod, it would fix that pretty quick.

Regards,
Shodan

This seems…unseemly. No offense, but if you are a mod or an admin it should appear under your title so us peons know whom we are dealing with. Hopefully it isn’t anal fissures or some other butt problem (again).

I agree. People have complained about this a number of times. Management disagrees with us.

Something like Admin Emeritus would be a perfect title but maybe it’s better to use the Admin card only when you feel like it.

Lynn is a Moderator Emeritus; she is mostly retired but still lends a hand now and then. She tends to read the board when most of us are asleep, so if she catches something we don’t, that’s a bonus.

She does not do active enforcement, she’s not issuing Warnings. She’s killing off the occasional spammer, closing an occasional redundant thread, that’s not a bad thing. In that regard what she’s styled has no bearing on the situation, she’s not affecting the community in any way … unless you’re a spammer.

Also, you shouldn’t be snarky about people in About This Mesage Board, regardless of their title. There’s another forum area for that.

Ed’s title is* Gormless Wienie*.

And just who is this “us”? Mouse in your pocket? :dubious:

I personally appreciate Lynn lending a hand in the endless battle against spamsters.

Although I’m well aware that Lynn and Tuba are Admins, it does seem reasonable that their status should be reflected in their posts for those who might not know, under their name, and I just noticed that they aren’t.

I understand why **Lynn **doesn’t show her rank, but I didn’t realise that **TubaDiva **has also retired.
