I know that I’ve been permanently banned from two forum/websites that I’d been posting on for 2 or 3 years due to retaliation against flaming, and for having different opinions than the prevailing majority on such sites. I was also banned from one temporarily for being sassier than I should’ve, but was re-instated afew days later.
How about it, everybody? Would love some feedback here.
I was banned from an EZBoard for disagreeing with the administrator, then I was banned from EZBoard as a whole about a year later because I helped one of his co-administrators delete his board after our disagreement turned into an all-out war. The ban eventually lapsed, though, and I got my username and own messageboard back within the year.
This was about five or six years ago. I can’t recall being banned from anywhere else.
Not a message board, but I was kicked out of an e-mail game (a contest to name movies from brief, generic descriptions). This was after years of participation, personal correspondence, and even exchanges of gifts with the owner. I shared something with my son (also a member) that the owner had told me about another player. She said she was worried about being sued. Talk about paranoid!
I was banned from cavecanum.com. You know, where everyone posts their secrets?
For many months, I read each and every secret without judgment, including stories of unspeakable acts of violence and perversion.
But then I read a secret posted by a man who indicated, with pride, that he purposely made his wife cry at a party. Well, I’m not sure what happened, but something inside of me cracked and I took the opportunity to post my own secret indicating that men who make their wives cry at parties in the spirit of humor are complete and utter losers.
Yep, two websites. The So Cal fishing community is kind of small.
One day, I had to ban one of the admins on a fishing website I help run because he was trolling the users. He left on bad terms and went to a competing website and slandered our good name. Anyway, once they figured out I was an admin on that site, they banned me.
Same thing with the other I guess… Preempting the “guilty by association” ban, I messaged the admins of another forum I was on and let them know. After a promise not to cause trouble, they let me stay on as a member. I posted there for a month or two then stopped. About a year later, a friend wanted me to check out a post in that forum. I went to look but, during my absence, they had banned me.
I got banned from the SDMB once. It was weird. I went to log in and I got a message saying I was banned. I was all “WTF!!!” and wrote to…I forget, either Lynn or Tuba. It was some wacky error and my account was reinstated.
I was banned from Alternate History Discussion Board as the user General Mung Beans because I posted a self-wank about me becoming Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court. As a result I have returned as numerous sockpuppet accounts.
I was banned from the Aint It Cool News talkback. Not for doing anything particularly bad, in my opinion, but I said something that apparently incited a minor flame war, which I never even witnessed (I went to sleep after my post) and when I returned the next day I found I was locked out of my login, and the whole thread had been wiped. Unfortunately I never found out the details (they don’t communicate with people who are banned) so I haven’t a clue what actually played out.
Not that it’s any kind of loss, AICN talkback represents the worst side of the nerdiest of geeks, but it irritates me that I got banned for a reason I can’t satisfyingly identify.
